I think you are right that I too hard on him. It is just my take that if he was just a bit better, this team would be in the playoffs. He gives no intellectual advantage on game day. I do not think he is a motivator. I DO think he even keeled which helps during troubled times, but at the same time, when the team needs to dig down for something, it is not there with a leader like Joe.
How does he not give an intellectual advantage? I am not saying you are wrong, but everytime I see you say that you don't really give a reason. Can half time adjustments be better? Sure but does that make him a bad game day coach? In 2 years, I can only really think of 2 games where we had complete duds under Philbin; last week and the Titans game last year.
You talk about the team not having a leader when they need to dig down, but what exactly did they have to do in the wake of BullyGate? Down by double digits against the Pats? Down against the Pats with under 3 minutes left in the 4th same game? Against the Steelers after a pick 6? The end of regulation against the Bengals?
Is Joe Philbin the 2nd coming of Vince Lombardi? No. Does he have weaknesses? Yes. Even if people want to blame Sherman (and I am one of them), Jim Turner, and Jeff Ireland for our offensive struggles, Joe Philbin is the head coach with an offensive background so he should be held accountable for the struggles as well. But I have not seen a consistent reason to say that Joe Philbin is a liability on gameday.
