NFL's Best Pass Rusher: Vote

There were a lot of votes for Julius Peppers and Shawne Merriman. Peppers is completely understandable. I think him and JT are the best in the league. They can dominate the game and demand a double team most of the time. No problem with people choosing Peppers. But Merriman? He has only played 1 year and he was suspended for 4 games this year for substance abuse. He had 10 sacks last year and has 8 and a half this year. JT has done this for 10 years. He had 12 last year and has 9 this year. I am not sure how you say Merriman, who is an outstanding player, is better than guys like JT and Peppers who have proved year in and year out that they are the top pass rushers. Anyway, I'm not trying to make a big deal out of this. Just giving my two cents.

Voted..

Merriman is in the lead with 45.87%, Peppers is second with 18.73% and Taylor is third with 8.41%.

If you keep voting for JT his percentage goes up even though after the first response, it say's it doesn't count.

I believe JT should win but I'm going to try to answer you objectively. The poll isn't asking about historical performance in previous years. It's this year that counts. Using your numbers........ Merriman has missed 4 games and has 8.5 sacks. JT has played every game and has 9 sacks. So, in effect Merriman has .5 fewer sacks than JT and has missed 4 whole games. By any standard that is impressive, especially since we all believe JT is great. How many more sacks would Merriman have if he didn't miss 4 games. Give the guy some credit.

I cant believe ROIDHEAD is winning.. :shakeno:

True... but he didn't miss four games to injury, he got busted for steroids. That's his fault and should count against him.

Anyways, as a pure pass rusher I would say Freeney or Peppers.... Overall, I would say Taylor. Taylor stops the run and can drop back into coverage, something Freeney doesn't do and something Peppers does OK.

Yeah but Merriman is a linebacker, it's alot easier to get a sack coming in uncontested most of the time. Most, practicly all of JT's sacks come from DE position and he has a guy on him every play.

not only do you have to look at sacks, how much extra stuff does JT do and still get 9 sacks and will probably get more

i voted like 100 times an brought it up 2% someone else do it a bunch of time to get it up screw merriroid

I'll argue with you on this much, I'm not saying it shouldn't "count" against him, but Merriman still got a bunch of sacks with it counting against him. Give the guy some credit for his success despite the setback. He's a great player.

That's what makes Taylor a more complete player, not just a sack artist. You are right there.
