NHL won't be on ESPN anymore

In the short-term, it's a good deal for the NHL. Frankly, I'm surprised they got $135 million over the next 2 years. I didn't think they'd get anywhere near that much.

In the long-term, it's a lousy move. Any shortage of money in ESPN's deal would have likely been made up by the exposure they'd get. This new deal will probably reach a lot fewer households than a new deal with ESPN would have, and the NHL desperately needs broad-based exposure right now to win attention back.

im glad that there might not be any nhl games on nasn because thats mostly the only thing on. they dont show enough nfl games, the only ones they do show is the preaseason games.

**** ESPN. They had the NHL for the past 11 years and didn't do jack s*it to help promote the league. Exposure my a*s. At least being on OLN the NHL will be the premiere sport on that network and won't get short-changed to air re-runs of poker or competitive eating.

True, but ESPN reaches a LOT more eyeballs than OLN will. That's my point, not that ESPN somehow did a great job of promoting the game.

nice, an indoor sport on an outdoor life channel...

sounds like something the NHL would do

Oh, the irony!

I guess the only game OLN's execs ever watched was that one outdoor gimmick game they played last season.

1) Good. That means more POKER on ESPN!

2) It will be back on ESPN. Comcast owns this OLN and Comcast was an eyelash of buying Disney (hence ESPN) last year. Their $66 billion offer was short by a little. They will probably end up buying it this year or next and then the NHL is back on ESPN.

What ever happened to that puck that had a microchip in it? The one that would turn colors based on how fast it was going? I thought that was pretty cool. I think it was on fox?

The worse part about this is..........

No more of the most awesome sports song on TV. NHL Hockey Night theme.

Yeah, no kidding. But I also like the LLWS tune and the NBA tune. But the Baseball Tonight theme is closest to my heart!

You've obviously never heard the "Hockey Night in Canada" theme. When I was a kid, I heard the first few notes of that song and was glued to the TV for the next 3 hours.
