Miami Dolphins' young players getting support from veterans
As the Dolphins' second-team defense lined up for another snap in team drills, 2009 first-round pick Vontae Davis dropped 10 yards off his receiver from his cornerback position. Knowing that is too much cushion for off-the-line pushing, veteran cornerback Will Allen's voice slashed the air.
``Vontae! Press, press, press!''
Davis hustled up to get in the receiver's face. Few people can get Davis' attention these days the way Allen can. The way Allen has taken an older-brother interest in Davis and Sean Smith, the cornerback Miami drafted in the second round, typifies the guidance expected from its veterans toward young players.

Miami Dolphins sign Will Allen to two-year extension
Miami Dolphins sign Will Allen to two-year extension
A few months ago, it would have been difficult to predict the Miami Dolphins' starting tandem at cornerback for 2010 simply because Miami didn't have enough players at the position.
Now, in the wake of a two-year contract extension signed by starter Will Allen on Tuesday, there's a new reason why it'd be too tough to forecast: A very healthy, deep competition still needs to play out.
Allen's extension, worth $16.2 million for the next three seasons, comes with $10 million in guaranteed money to be paid over the next two years, agent Drew Rosenhaus said Tuesday. The starter was scheduled to hit free agency after this season.

Miami Dolphins' Will Allen a corner and a tutor
Miami Dolphins' Will Allen a corner and a tutor
Standing in front of a roomful of rookies about a month ago, Dolphins cornerback Will Allen had a harsh tale he wanted to share with his new teammates to make sure they realized life in the league isn't always easy.
The story dated to when Allen was a first-round draft pick in 2001 preparing for his first season with the Giants, just as Dolphins rookie Vontae Davis is doing now. Allen, then a wide-eyed rookie, had a question about a play during practice.
Naturally, he approached the team's most experienced cornerback for an answer.
