I do believe that by the end of 2007, the franchise that employed Porter for the first eight years of his exceptional career will be humiliated for having let him go.

"I wish I just had an opportunity to turn down a deal," Porter told me earlier this week. "They didn't know what I would've turned down, so why not make an offer? That was the shocking thing -- they didn't even give me the option to stay. That's what was so frustrating."

I think he'll have an awesome game against his former team this year...

He is going to bring some emotion to this football team. I think we will finish number 2 overall in Defense.

oh for sure
i can picture it now him at the end of the game stomping at the logo mid field glaring at the steeler sidelines with a look on his face that says i told you you should have kept me

Wow, this article gave me chills.

Football is an emotional game, one that requires players to put aside logic -- for example, disregarding thoughts like "Why am I thrusting my body into the path of a charging 250-pounder at full speed?" -- for the benefit of those around them. Porter, like Lott before him, is one of those rare players capable of bringing out that maniacal zeal in others. As with Lott, Porter's words carry weight because he is the craziest, most committed man on the field.

Great find Bullseyeguy. Thanks.

I like the Porter signing, love it actually..... But with the Steelers not even giving him an option to resign is it possible that there was more to their letting him go than the money?

Edit-Man I like reading this
Says Porter: "I can be that loose cannon, as long as I'm a controlled loose cannon. Nobody's gonna come out and push us around -- I can promise you that."
Ward believes Porter's intensity will be tougher to replace than his sacks, interceptions and forced fumbles. "It's shocking that they let him go," Ward says, "because he was really the emotional leader, the guy who brought out the best in a lot of players. That's why so many veterans -- Alan Faneca, James Farrior and others -- called me when they heard he was released. We were all shocked.

The Steelers are infamous for letting their star LBs leave just as Peezy alludes to in the article. Some would agree that the system makes the LB and not the other way around. History might actually agree with that theory as most LBs who left Pitt didn't enjoy the same success elsewhere. That doesn't affect us with Peezy though because he'll be in a similar system here.

I'm glad that I got the opp to send this thread back up to the top because every Dolfan should read this article. Especially enlight of all the negativity surrounding our signing of Porter.

Why stop there, yo? Why not NUMERO UNO!!! Other teams will be:boohoo:when they play us. #1 D in '07, baby......

No. Steelers are a lame organization, notoriously known as tightwads. The fans are known to be great, the players blue-collar, the coaches as fixtures wearing the face of the franchise... but ownership? Tightwads. New coach this year and Pitt having a bad year = "Uh oh! Better start watching the 'ol purse strings!"

I too am adding my 5 star rating to this thread. Why? Great link. Appreciate the opportunity to read this great article and for it to be so encouraging... especially after my own optimism recently curtailed a little, due to the Pats overly-aggressive signings. I think we're approaching it right... acquiring draft picks, and grabbing possibly the top player available in all of FA. Good stuff!

Told you it was a good article. It sucks that not many have read it. Or maybe they have and just haven't posted.

As soon as Porter was cut I figured him to be the best FA on the market over Adalius and Clements. That's what my common sense told me anyways. We're talking about a consistant pro bowler who's got perhaps the most fiery passion in the game plus playoff and superbowl experience.

Miami won here way before this article was ever written. The words just help to see it clearer.

I was pissed that the patsie signed AT.
Not that he signed somewhere else just that hes a patty now,**** THE PATS.

But then porter was cut and i prayed that The Dolphins get him.I was like i dont care if he is the only 1 we sign in FA.

We need him.Im glad he came out when he did.Im glad we didnt get AT,

Porter is way more of a FOOTBALLER THAN
A.THOMAS

We just were in the right position,at the right time.

IT WAS MEANT TO HAPPEN.#1 D next year.

I loooovvvvveeeeee this pick up.We will be NASTY.
