Hi, As a Giants fan I like to follow most FA the Giants have and see where they end up. Some of you guys may remember me from when Will Allen signing threads. Well Lavars signing got me thinking, and I think former Giants LB Nick Greisen maybe a good fit for the fish. Nicks not that fleet of foot, but he will tackle anyone he can get his hands on. He also a very smart linebacker. In his second year under Tim Lewis he really started to read plays well and got alot more tackles for a loss. Thats what really jumped out at me last year. How many plays he was blowing up at, or behind the LOS. On top of that he can play any LB spot. Still, he too slow to cover anyone for the most part, and he really has no upside due to his limited athletical ability. Basicly what you see, is what you get.

maybe, but we're really on the hunt for a fast, athletic type that can wreck havoc as an OLB

Maybe we can sign to him back up ZT and Chowder at MLB, i know we have Pope but i dont think he would be that much $$$

We dont really need depth at the position as much as we need a real starter quality talent. Hodge, pope, and hodge are all efficent but not spectacular as backups or spot starters. Another LB who i see making this team and will add depth is matt sinclair. Again i dont see depth as the issue at the LB spot we need the playmaker and gamechanger.

I still think Tommy Polley mixed in with this group of defensive players could be a real good player.

We need pass rushing skills from our outside LB in the 3-4. That is the only reason we were interested in Lavar. I for one am relieved that he signed with the Giants. He is not a coachable player IMO. He would have gave up more plays than he made. You can take advantage of him too easy when it comes playoff time.
As for what we need to address the position, the top of the draft has several quality guys that meet our requirments. All the mock drafts have us taking a WR or corner or saftey. I say it is a 95% chance we take either Lawson or Simms with our #1. As the week gets closer to draft day you will hear Saban talk about every position except that to try and throw everyone off. But olb who can pass rush is our biggest and hardest to fill need. Finding a safety is easy. Lance is still out there and our corners are fine the way they are. Young but fine. With the way the rules are now you really can't find cover corners now any way. You have to have guys with speed that can learn zone and taclke well.
We WILL draft a OLB with the 1st pick, mark it down.

Ktown...I have to dissagree with you there...LA was a beast for Washington in the stretch and in the playoffs. I was mildly dissapointed he didn't sign here, but not devastated as some were. But, we still have needs that we need to get in the draft, as you mentioned...

As to Greisen, we have Spraghan as our run stopping LB...we have Hodge who is a better pass coverage guy...what we need is someone who can do both as well as put some pressure on the QB in the passing game...Hopefully, we'll get one of the decent looking OLB in the draft...Sims is a little small for Sabans liking, so I would suspect that Lawson, Greenway, Wimbley or Carpenter are targeted rather than Sims...

Nick Greisen is a disaster. He was touted as someone who was going to be promising. But, he can't stay healthy, and when he does play he isn't that effective. he would be a step back for us right now.

To be quiet honest about Greisen: I do not see a reason why the Fins should sign him.

1. He is asking starter money because that is what he thinks he is.

2. I have a friend who is a huge Giants fan, so I had not only to watch all playoff games but many Giants games last season. And as most LBs got hurt we always watched how the remaining LBs were doing incl. Greisen. And boy, is he awful. I might be exaggerating a bit here, but he is way slow and his tackling was anything but convincing. The guy is a backup , nothing more:tantrum:
