I think that it is one of the more astounding statistics out there...Nick Saban never having had a losing season as a head coach. Last season looked like the first, but things turned around in a hurry. Michigan State, LSU, etc...no losing seasons. I think that it is a testament to the adjustments that he makes, which are what makes him such a good coach. It might take some time, but he will tinker with things as much as necessary to get us on the right track...unfortunately, it might happen later rather than sooner....we'll see.
 
It's an AMAZING statistic. And he took over some bad teams too (college & NFL).


You're going to get some anti-Saban posters here who will start arguing things like:
"Well, in my book, if you don't make the playoffs, it's not a winning season"
Blah, Blah, Blah.... :rolleyes:

Screw them.....
The stat is valid, and is amazing......... :cooldude:

i never knew that. and that would explain the turnaround we saw last year.

that is a big stat cuz at 3-7 last year i was sure we were gonna be in the bush sweepstakes.

that alone gives me more hope not a lock for a good season but much better knowing he doesn't like to lose.

I agree, the man is impressive. But is he going to make one of the few mistakes that coaches make in their time- to live and die by your QB? We all saw the death of Wannstedt by Fiedler. Though Fiedler was a warrior and a winner, everyone knew, except Dave, that Jay could not take us to the next level. Is Saban going to make that same mistake with Culpepper? Because Lord knows that it's a good possibility that we are now watching the best of what DC has to offer. I am not of that opinion. I think, in time, DC will get back to old form. But as a reasonable man, I have to give perspective to the fact that Daunte might go in that other direction and never shine again. If that is the case, will Saban be quick and decisive, or allow years of mediocracy to roll by? For lets not forget gentlemen, Dave Wannstedt gave us 4, count them, IV winning seasons. Was it good enough? I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried- for DC, Saban, and the entire franchise.

Yeah well the Dolphins didn't play as poorly as they did in the first 10 games in the final 6 games did they. I'd rather play well the whole season and not come strong in meaningless games at the end. Especially when the back end of our schedule is tougher than the start THIS year.

Not to be a doubting Thomas but that was in college football, not the pro's. It doesn't count being an assistant coach in the NFL....

Last year he was not our assistant coach, he was our head coach - and he had a winning season in a complete NFL season. I might be wrong here!

I think he is referring to being a cleveland assistant

I know exactly what he is referring to, and obviously Saban had losing seasons in both Houston and Cleveland as an asst coach - that is why that doesn't count towards your head coaching career. What I was pointing to is that he makes it sound like he's never had a winning season in the NFL, just in college(which ofcourse has been the majority of his head coaching experience). Point is - hes had a winning season as an NFL head coach, not just college.
 
I think that is a great record. I respect Saban for turning the team around last year for a winning season. I think he will do that again this season.
 
That is truely an impressive stat and i think it speaks volumes about what kinda coach he must be. Those things dont just happen on accident so this is why i have the utmost confidence Nick will right this ship soon enough.

I concur, and believe that for some, theres simply a quality of performance they absolutely refuse to accept, and in one way or another, manage to overcome deficiencies. In that very maelstrom, when a combination of the right variables are in play, I also believe is what drives teams to become champions.
