Nick Saban's Pre-Draft Press Conference

Nothing. More of the same old. heard most of it on 790 at about noon.

From what I heard, neither.

He supposedly touched these topics:

-happy w/FA and the additions made. He thinks we addressed positions of need and got starter quality (Shelton, Beasely, etc)
-seems happy w/secondary
-wants to solidify front 7 whenever possible
-wants to be the most explosive offense in the NFL
-interested in players that can make impact plays and score TDs (Santonio?)
-Didn't talk about LaVar
-Couldn't talk about Harrington because he's still under contract

From what I gathered at the press conference, expect the Fins to draft a WR or a LB with the 16th pick. If someone happens to fall such as Winston Justice,Jimmy Williams,or one of the QB's i'm sure Nick and Randy wont pass on them because he clearly said that even if its not a position of need he will take that particular player because they bring "value" to the organization. But as of right now i expect Chad Jackson or Santonio Holmes to be a Miami Dolphin.

He also said that getting Harrington does not preclude us from drafting a QB if he is the player with the most value at the spot we are drafting.

That doesn't make sense, since Harrington was given permission to seek a trade Saban should be allowed to speak on the Harrington situation without breaking the rules of tampering.

I thought that the Palm Beach Post brought out something interesting, stating that Saben is dealing all these picks after repeatedly saying he likes to build a team with the draft. But who am I ti question St. Nick?? I actually think he's doing a great job. Just the discipline alone reminds me of the Don's days.

Thanks for the summary. I always thought we'd go WR if one was there so it will be interesting to watch it unfold.

now I'm believing more and more in Jackson/Holmes

I think that only pertains to his philosophy when he has his team where he wants it... then he builds through the draft with a sprinkilng of FA moves.... But who ever knows what Saban thinks about anything? The man was born with a poker face.

I watched the whole thing and he said we addressed 4 areas on offense (WR, QB, FB, and OLine) He talked alot about taking whats there that gives our team the most value long term...I think at this point we either go BPA and select Santonio or Jackson...or we take a linebacker. His mention of addressing the WR position though scared me...is Campbell really going to be our #3?
