I was just curious to know who we all expect to be starting at OLB now that it wont be Brooks. My money is on Spragan, he played well last year all things considered. I haven't seen much news on the state of Hodge, so I really don't know what to expect from him. I guess we'll know more about our state at OLB once training camp gets underway....

I'm still angry we didn't offer a 3rd for Brooks, but I guess that's just the way it goes when it comes to these kinds of players within the Supplemental Draft....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

You're going to see many different players at that spot; situational.

Donnie Spragan, Keith Newman, Sedrick Hodge, and whoever else...

U do understand that Brooks, most likely, would not have started one game this season with the Dolphins right? Definetly not the opening game . . hell Jason Allen may not start and he was our top pick, why on earth would we start Brooks . . especially this late, when he would have to learn the defense. He wasn't an answer for this season. I feel comfortable in us not selecting him, now we can reserve that third rounder for a player with less issues than Brooks. A great talent no question, but we take enuff risks as is, time to secure sure things. Joey a risk, Ricky a risk, CPep a risk, Manny a risk, Jason Allen a injury risk, David Boston a risk, hell even Ronnie Brown with the number 2 pick was a risk . . I mean its not the end of the world that we didn't take him, and for the many fin fans who expect great things this season, Brooks most likely would not have contributed a whole lot.

Supposedly when Capers reviewed tape of the team, he came away highly impressed with Donnie Spragan. Sedrick Hodge has not been anything special in mini's so far. Keith Newman is that guy that always surprises you and plays better than you'd expect.

Situational though...Donnie starts, Newman comes in on pass rush downs, Sedrick is a pass coverage specialist.

It's Spragan's job to lose. He will start in game 1, but it's anyone's guess what happens after that. Just as Spragan started to make strides late in the 2005, Newman or Hodge could begin to creep into the picture midway into this season...

Either way, i feel like we sort of have the same bag in all three players. I can't say that one has any more up-side than the others...

Is anyone well-versed in the specific talents of these three guys?

Aw, hell, they're all sort of vanilla anyhow... With all due respect, of course... :dunno:

Dom Capers likes Donnie Spragan's instincts. He studied tape of him from last year and was very impressed.

He'll be the "starter."

However, Keith Newman's specialty is rushing the passer. You'll see him in there more often than not on 3rd downs and long passing situations.

I don't know what to think of Sedrick Hodge. He's got all the talent but can't put it together for some reason. At the least, he'll be a very good special teams player.

...One other thing to remember is we are going to play a lot of nickle and dime and disguise coverages.
We'll probably even start games out that way.
It really doesn't matter who "starts" at the other OLB spot, because he'll probably be playing around only 40 percent of the time anyway.

I mean, we typed the same exact thing at the same exact time.

We'll never know now.....

hell Jason Allen may not start and he was our top pick, why on earth would we start Brooks .

S J. Allen is currently 1 on the depth chart at that position, so if all continues to go well during TC, I have no doubt he'll be starting on opening day for us...

As for Brooks, who knows, but he would have brought more competition / depth to our currently thin LB corps....

I mean its not the end of the world that we didn't take him, and for the many fin fans who expect great things this season, Brooks most likely would not have contributed a whole lot.

I never said, or acted like it was the end of the world, but a 3rd rounder was not too much to give up for a player of his caliber in my opinion. We gave up more than that for less talented guys in the past, and considering we missed out on both Peterson / Arrington this off-season, landing Brooks was our next best option. I still happy we have that pick to use on a player with hopefully fewer issues in next years draft, but Brooks just seemed like the perfect solution to our needs at OLB.....

Nobody is crying over it, just alittle disappointed that's all....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

Aha! Apparently a few of you ARE well-versed...

Thanks for the insight!

Theyll be looking to upgrade at that position next year or possibly a couple of years.

He's 5th string on our all-Bench team.

No, he doesn't even rate that. He's a grabastic piece of amphibian ****. He's a slimy litte communist ****, twinkle-toed ********er. In short, he's an oxygen thief and a waste of roster space.
