No moves to impact run game or run D

I love the fact that every year you have a certain percentage of posters that think the Dolphins live in a vacuum, and that somehow there aren't 31 OTHER TEAMS vying for players in the VERY SAME FA pool every single year.

At best Mitchell vs Solai is a wash, not an improvement, at best. Starks? wasnt he on the Dline last year...the same one that got shredded vs run... where is the improvement? Doh!

My opinion is that Mitchell fits the 4-3 scheme better than Soliai fits the 4-3 scheme. I believe it is an improvement.

Earl Mitchell? Randy Starks returns?

I think the moves have been made for our defensive line.

Moves yes ... but we are significantly worse for losing Paul Soliai. Watch the tape of Houston. The double team was regularly going to JJ Watt, not Mitchell ... and rightfully so. In Miami that double team was commanded by Paul Soliai because he would bull rush any single OL and wreck the interior OL on every play if they did not. Why was Starks so effective? In part, because he regularly matched up with a single-team block and could use his quick gap penetration skills to beat his man. The problem is that it is the same game our entire DL plays now, and they cannot succeed enough vs. a double team. Get ready for Odrick to be dominated in a double-team on run plays and Starks dominated on pass plays.

Mitchell is a decent player and we got him for a good price ... but he doesn't command a double-team or hold his ground when doubled like Soliai did. The biggest difference for Mitchell ... we don't have a JJ Watt who commands a double-team and still wrecks defenses in all phases. We all wish we did.

Sad and pathetic post. I didnt realize we were going into the season with this current roster. It's going to be weird to see us line up with only two offensive linemen. We might be sacked more than 58 times in the first game. Oh the humanity!

:rolleyes2:

I didn't realize all the running backs were gone...I should check twitter more often.

I like what we have done so far, but I don't want to see the same mistakes repeated from last year of not prioritizing the O-line enough.

We have to find at least one more starting O-lineman in free agency, ideally two more.

Maybe they are waiting for the market to settle down a bit now, but we are in trouble if the good ones all get gobbled up.

We have been mediocre for 20 years because we have been ignoring offense for 20 years.

We have been slaves to the twin fetishes/LIES of "defense wins championships" and "build inside-out".

I am hoping beyond hope that Hickey will get us a 1000 Yd RB who can be a difference maker. Not a "name" guy like carlos hype either but a REAL carry-the-mail big yardage guy. Tre Mason anyone? And yes WE DO NEED A WR and a TE who can stretch the field.

:lol2:

I guess you missed the Super Bowl where the Seattle defense dominated one of the best, if not THE, best quarterback of all time and his insane offense?

Sometimes defense wins the matchup....sometimes offense dominates....its all about the matchups.

Last years Superbowl is no blueprint per say...the objective is to be strong on both offense and defense.

You should start paying attention prior to posting. Thanks
If you cant stop the run, and if you cant run the ball....you aint going nowhere, period end of story. BAlbert is nice but he's a pass blocking LT hired to "protect the blind side..."

On D, anyone can argue losing Solai softens our pure run D...which was soft last year. At LB we are mediocre at best. So where have we improved in these areas?

We haven't, and probably wont via FA. But Hickey better make perfect moves in these areas or we'll be .500 again.

Oh I agree, we need balance but I was just pointing out that clearly defense CAN win championships

I am guessing Mitchell doesnt count. Wtf is wrong with some of you people.

Lol patience people and technically delmas is better in run support then clemons

Alberta and Delmas(if he stays healthy)are upgrades...Mitchell is a major downgrade at this moment.

LB is a major need at the moment IMO..Guard/RT,TE,Wr are areas of concern aswell.
