I have been hearing over and over about drafting a qb. The only problem i see with this is it FORCES you to draft for need. Saban made it very clear by drafting Roth he will go BPA. I foresee us trading an older veteran(say ZT, with chowder looking stellar)and maybe a late round pick to grab a more experienced qb who can be expected to win now. We will not draft a qb in the draft, unless Saban finds a late round project...IMO

how often do established players get traded for other established players? rarely if ever. there's no way we trade zach. if anything, after this season seau is the odd man out.

No one will trade a young player with a lot of potential for a vet.

if i'm not mistaken wouldn't Zach's cap penalty be horrendous, there's no way any team is gonna trade us a decent QB for a ILB on his last leg

That and the fact that even though Saban went with the BPA available in Roth....he also wants his guys in there and as of right now no QB on the roster is his guy( other than the ancient Frerotte) and I dont believe he wants someone elses trash. He'll draft a QB or so i believe so.

yeah i definitely going to agree on that, when Saban first came in i figured he would just try to mold the team that was already here but he's pretty much tearing the whole thing down and building it back to his strict specs. so i do believe our long term QB will come from the draft not FA or a trade.

Yeap....which is what every good coach will do. That way if they go down...they go down using their guys not someone elses. You're right with the tearing about comment....he has dismantled half of the team already. Look for it to be completely different next year when he drafts the face of the Dolphins with a new QB.

Was Roth really a BPA selection? I'm not saying we reached, not at all, but I thought the d-line was one place where we were expected to pick someone up. The Crowder selection was certainly BPA, but Daniels (although very talented, no doubts there) was likely a need pick at CB.

Who says a Qb won't be the BPA? Lots of teams take Qbs when they already have good ones because of the value. We need to draft a Qb next season or we are a completely inept organization. Im still shocked we didnt take one this year, I think Saban messed up by not getting more talent for the position. We don't have a legit starter or quality young talent on the roster, thats just not good for the longterm of this team.

hmm..i thought someone out there may agree..
also zach was an example..i don't think with our aging D we have time for a qb to develop

Thread cleansed. Leave politics in the political forum.

We'd get next to nothing for Zach and a late round pick. Definitely wouldnt get a great qb for that. We need to draft one, or trade for Rivers.
