If they dont sign Smith then the new plan should be find a new GM for next year. What you all fail to understand when using a value chart is that it does not apply to FA and Qbs. QBs are not a dime a dozen like WRs. Qbs that can win are prime real estate or prime lake front property. you overpay in FA cause others want the same QB. Its not like the draft where you have your turn. You overpay for Flynn unless you know beforehand you can land Smith. Now you will pay more for Smith anyway. Smith may be a better option but you have to be sure you are going to land him before letting Flynn go.

Maybe bring Marino into the org next year with power to overrule GM and find a QB that can play. I am going to predict it here. If we dont sing Smith, their will be a reorganization of power next year. Marino needs to call Ross and tell him a few things about QBs.

No it means they were sold, thats why they offered him. What kind of argument is that?
Maybe the Seattle staff wanted him more than the new Dolphins staff did. That still doesn't mean it was Ireland's fault Flynn chose Seattle. It could also mean that Seattle offered him the starters role whereas the Dolphins said he would have to compete for the job and was giving him a contract to suggest that.

If they were sold on Flynn, they would not have let him leave for Seattle, the same way Buffalo didn't let Williams leave for his next visit without offering him a bigger contract.

Draft Michael Floyd in 1st and Brandon Weeden in 2nd. Sign Mark Anderson. This will somewhat salvage our poor offseason.

Jobs are graded on RESULTS. The dolphins front office has none.

Well keep me from being "one of those guys". Tell me which draft picks and trades Ireland was the decider on and which ones was Parcells was the decider.
I don't think anyone could even FIND parcells the last year or so he worked for the dolphins personally, but just give me the list and I can see what Ireland is responsible for. Please inform me. Which ideas were Ireland's during the Parcell's regime? I'm sure Ireland didn't have 1 single idea during any of those drafts that Parcells agreed with?

The day the Tuna left, is the day the choices became Ireland's. That's how I view it, and what I think to be a fair thing to do.

What so he can quit on us again?

No thx. The day Marino comes back is the day I really start to doubt any Dolphins front office.

Once again...what makes you think Philbin wanted Flynn?

Sparano didn't have a say in personnel until after the Harbaugh Fiasco so I'm not sure how you can include Sparano in the Parcells/Ireland decision making collaborative effort.

If Philbin has an idea of what kind of players he needs/wants for this team to get over the hump, and Ireland doesn't listen to him, then one or both of them will be looking for a new job next year.

The fact that we flew him in. The fact that we offered him a contract, even when Seattle did not. The fact that Philbin kept calling Flynn to make sure he knew that he was in Philbins plans.

Otherwise, why would coach Joe Philbin be calling him throughout the free agency process to make sure Flynn knew he was a major Miami target?

Sparano did get it written into his contract that he would have decision making ability. But Parcells said that running the team would be a collaborative effort. Isnt that what your basing your entire argument on, a single announcement by the person in charge? Well Parcells announced that early in his role as VP. Hence the "trifecta" term being thrown around. So Ireland has had 5 drafts, glad we agree.

Can you honestly say that Ireland is listening? Have you been paying attention to the last week? And even if he does listen, can you honestly say that things will change? Philbin has as much experience handling player acquisition as i do. Which is to say: none.

There are contract offer that are starting level offers, like he got in Seattle, and there are compete for the job offers, like they are reporting he got from Miami.

Get it?

No because if he signed the deal they'd be stuck with a QB they don't want you're saying? So are people going to really spin it now that we didn't want Flynn? lmao

The team has become ... The Miami Mañana

New battle cry ... let's get a QB in the draft ... which of course, is happening Mañana!!

Remember last year ... when we didn't get a QB in the draft ... Mañana, they tried to trade for a QB!!

We've even got Jimmy Buffet & his song ... Mañana!!

With the haunting verse lyrics .... "just don't forget you might end up being in my song"

Yes the Dolphins flew him in and offered him a contract that wasn't what he wanted. Not only did they let Flynn leave for Seattle but they apparently didn't try to stop him to offer him a larger contract like other teams have done when they really wanted someone.

Sparano didn't get it written into his contract until after Parcells was long gone. The Trifecta came about because Parcells/Ireland/Sparano all came from the Cowboys and were running things on the football side of things for the Dolphins.

Can you with 100% certainty say that Ireland is not listening? He didn't want to over pay for Flynn and he didn't want to make Winston the highest paid RT in the NFL. Is that really such a bad thing?

As far as things changing with Ireland in the future? Only time will tell.

Philbin may not have any experience acquiring personnel but he knows (or think he knows) what he likes, want and need to make tenure as a head coach successful.

Do you really think Philbin was in constant contact with Flynn while he was still under contract with the Packers? Do you really believe Philbin would risk tampering with Flynn and have the Packers file charges so the league can come down hard on the Fins for being so stupid?

I guess Armando is only an idiot when he says something that doesn't fits ones agenda.

No, they did want Flynn but did not want to pay as a franchise QB.

No it means the Dolphins didn't see Flynn as a sure fire starter and they weren't willing to over pay above their opinion.

so what was ireland doing the whole time the tuna was here , picking his nose or twilling his thumbs ?
