As for Nolan’s history, as I point out in the column, the man has been in charge of defenses (or head coach) for all but one season (wide receivers coach in Baltimore in 2001) since 1993, and in all that time his defenses had never been shredded the way they were on Monday night by the Patriots.
Here’s the breakdown of the top 10 outbursts against defenses bearing the Nolan stamp, both in terms of net passing yardage and total offense. What trends do you notice here? I’m seeing a lot of September problems, most likely due to the complexity of Nolan’s schemes:

9-12-11 Patriots vs Dolphins 622yds L, 38-24

9-18-05 Eagles vs 49ers 583yds L, 42-3

11-25-07 Cardinals vs 49ers 552yds W, 37-31

9-12-99 Cowboys vs Redskins 541yds L, 41-35 (OT)

1-3-10 Chiefs vs Broncos 524yds L, 44-24

9-14-98 49ers vs Redskins 504yds L, 45-10

1-2-11 Patriots vs Dolphins 502yds L, 38-7

Net Passing
9-12-11 Patriots vs Dolphins 516yds Tom Brady L, 38-24

11-25-07 Cardinals vs 49ers 456yds Kurt Warner W, 37-31

9-18-05 Eagles vs 49ers 443yds Donovan McNabb L, 42-3

9-18-94 Redskins vs Giants 376yds John Friesz W, 31-23

10-6-02 @Browns vs Ravens 371yds Tim Couch W, 26-21

10-31-99 Bears vs Redskins 371yds Cade McNown W, 48-22

An interesting stat list...

Though is this list comprehensive- showing all the years he coached a defense? Or just the years he had a bad outing in Sept?

This Defense better play alot better and soon, or Mike Nolan will be standing in the unemployment line.

It's short sighted idiotic comments like this that make it hard for me to stay on this board....

The guy's D had one terrible outing against one of if not the League's best offense; and a living legend at QB firing on all cylinders. Need I remind you Mike Nolan is the guy who took our D from 20th ranked to 6th ranked last year? Hell many of you were calling for him to be head coach.

This knee jerk reaction BS has got to stop. It's moronic.

I AGREE U CANT SAY HE IS GARBAGE BECAUSE OF ONE GAME BUT IT WAS THE WORST DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE FROM A YARDAGE STANDPOINT EVER FOR A DOLPHIN TEAM. i MEAN ITS JUST AS FAIR FOR PEOPLE TO SAY HE SUCKS AFTER ONE GAME AS IT WAS TO CUT SAPP FOR THE ONE GAME. cANT STABD SAPP BUT THATS BS

The Pats caught us offguard plain and simple, similar to when we caught them off guard with the wildcat....and they obviously saw a weakness in Benny Sapp since they kept attacking him...seeing how he was attacked and exposed the team had no choice but to cut him because that's exactly what Houston and everyone else would've done to us in the coming weeks....

Time for everyone to stop overreacting

I do not buy it. The team returned 10 of 11 starters and the subs were around last year as well. What is so complex?

lets not simplify this loss to benny sapp's fault. They dominated our whole defense. so how come no team blew him up like that last year. hate sapp but this loss was on the whole defense along with nolan and sparano

Not saying it was his fault, but it's pretty obvious he was overmatched in coverage, and the Pats exploited it...

Hell they picked on Nolan Carroll too...but Carroll is in his second year, and was there on the ball, he just had trouble making plays on the ball, that will come with experience, at least he has the athleticism to stick with the receivers, something Mr. Sapp obviously didn't have

I'm confused.. it's not like we really have new guys here. They should all know what to do by now.

its no one else fault but R. Jones. everyone else is amazing and Chris Clemons is our savior.

What I suggest you do is put everyone who posts like that on your "ignore" list, and you won't have to read posts like that anymore.
