1. (1) Chris Long, DE, Virginia 6'3", 272
2a. (32) Gosder Cherilus, OT, BC 6'6", 314
2b. (57) Chilo Rachal, OG, USC 6'6", 332
3. (64) Ali Highsmith, OLB, LSU 6'0", 230
4. (100) Terrell Thomas, CB, USC 6'0", 202
6a. (195) Jacob Hester, FB, LSU 5'11", 226
6b. (204) Andrew Bain, OG, Miami 6'3", 330
7a. (208) Marcus Henry, WR, Kansas 6'4", 205
7b. (245) Carlton Medder, OT, Florida, 6'5", 318

Free agent (undrafted) signings:

Justin McKinney, CB, Kansas State, 5-9, 188
Sam Kellar, QB, Nebraska, 6-3, 241
Josh Coffman, OT, East Carolina, 6-6, 300
Calvin Dawson, RB, Louisana-Monroe, 5-8, 200
Paul Hubbard, WR, Wisconsin, 6-2, 221
Maurice Purify, WR, Nebraska, 6-3, 224
Joe Jon Finley, TE, Oklahoma, 6-6, 254

lot of talent here, but also realistic. Sparano gets infusion for the OL, and the defense gets 3-4 very talented players.

i would be shocked if no trades get made, but since we are pretty much stuck with the #1 overall, too hard to realistically forecast any trades beyond that.

Paul Hubbard will be drafted in the 3rd I will say.

Flip Highsmith and Thomas. IMO Highsmith one round to high Thomas one round too Low.

I know you fin fans at want Chris Long want to believe that Cherilus will be there. He wont. You pass on a tackle you got the choice of Nicks or Baker.

thanks for the input, BillsFan.

I'm really not that thrilled with Chris Long, but I think he is going to be the easiest to sign, and therefore could end up being the #1 by default. I do think he will be a great player, regardless. Just not thrilled.

I don't see Thomas going as high as you think (64), I thing he will still be there at 100. Ali Highsmith flew under the radar due to missing a few games (injury). Parcells knows talent and if Highsmith is there at 64 I think he will grab him up.

The first two picks are great but it kind of goes down hill there. I like rachal but we have bigger needs than to take a guard that high. Highsmith does not fit this defense size wise. Thomas is a good pick. The rest im not going to argue because we have no idea who is going to be available.

No to Ali Highsmith but a huge thumbs up to Jacob Hester. he's be awesome on Teams and a very positive vibe for this team. He's a perfect fit for Parcells.

The reason I dont think he will last to (100) is because he can play the CB position and the Safety Position. Add that to the fact he is a returner as well. That takes his stock in the third. Waltersfootall has him ranked late second early 3rd.

The thing about Highsmith is at only 221 and runs a 4.75. The other thing I thought 3-4 LBs are a little bigger than 221. If you want to take a LB at that postion I think a Shawn Crable from Michigan would be a better selection

appreciate the comments.

Ali Highsmith may not be a "sexy" pick but he is a clone of Bradie James, whom Parcells loved. He is a playmaker, a hard hitter and a good character guy. A lot of people also don't realize he is a top 55 ranked player in this draft. Getting him at 64 would be a good value.

As far as Rachal goes, my opinion is that Parcells is going to give Sparano 4 guys to infuse the OL with. Personally, I would have likely went a different route there as well, but Im trying to keep my projections on what I percieve Parcells will do, instead of what I want him to do.

Another option like Mike McGlynn for PITT in the 4th can play G and T

then take a CB in the second say someon the likes of Godfrey, Flowers, King, Lee or even Talib if he slips because of the pot somking

I agree he is a multi-tooled guy, but he is also a sub-par tackler, tends to try to drag-tackle insted of delivering the blow which is going to eliminate him playing safety in the NFL. He also tends to get beaten and doesn't have the quick recovery whn that does happen. The average ranking I have seen him at is 91.

just my opinion.....

How is Highsmith a bradie james clone again? Highsmith goes 6'0 230. James is 6'2 250. Highsmith isnt one to take on blockers in the hole. He lacks the strength to hold up in the middle. Lacks the athleticism to play on the outside. He doesnt have a fit in this defense.

Well if you look at what Parcells and Ireland have done, they prefer defensive players higher than offensive players. If you look at what they did in Dallas, they drafted 4 OL on the first day of the draft with only one of them being a guard. When Parcells was in NY, he drafted 2 guards on the first day. Point being, I wouldnt look for an OG on the first day unless he is far and away better than other prospects on the board at the time. Rachal I highly doubt will be.

I hear were you are coming from. The only issue is that the CB run is going to decide where he goes.

Lets say the run in the first takes DRC, McKelvin, Jenkins, Cason, Talib

The run on the second will have Porter, Flowers, Godfrey, King at least.

So the third round mini run may include him. That is why I dont see him there at 100.

To each his own, good mock, just dont see some of those players at some of those choices.

Do not like the Highsmith pick at all in the 3rd though 221 is to not what I see when I see a BP outside LB for a 3-4 DEF

I think he is a clone in the way he plays. Coming out of LSU, Bradie James had some of the same knocks on him. He was 6'2", 237 when drafted in the fourth round by Parcells. He is also a hard hitting playmaker who fell in the draft and was snatched up in the fourth round. Here is a clip from SI.com's 2003 Pre-Draft assessment of James:

POSITIVES: Run defending linebacker with great leadership intangibles. Immediately reads or anticipates the action, scrapes well laterally and sizes up the ball carrier, stacking up well against the run. Quick moving up the field, squares into tackles and wraps up. Takes good angles to the action, displays the ability to scrape laterally and works to make a play. Always plays smart football.

NEGATIVES: Offers only a short area burst of speed, lacks range and struggles in space. Cannot beat ball carriers to the corners and has difficulty in anything other than zone coverage when the ball is in the air. Slow regaining his balance off the initial block.

Ali Highsmith Pre-Draft Assessment:

Strengths: Terrific athlete…smooth in coverage with quick hips and the ability to cover many tight ends down the field…experienced leader on a top defense…had a great career for the National Champions…uses his quickness well as a pass rusher…has experience playing all linebacker positions…good, wrap up tackler…able to make plays in space…hard worker who is all over the field

Weaknesses: …Needs to refine his technique…needs to work on shedding the initial block contact...gets too high at times and taken out of the plar…only average strength…not going to fit in every scheme…timed speed was disappointing...

Very similar players.

thanks for the input anyhow, it's all a guessing/hoping game for the next few days!

btw, there should be some good talent that doesn't even get drafted this year, the free-agent signings could be almost as intriguing !
