Don't follow baseball anymore. Is the knuckle ball still a thing? Lol amazing to watch him pitch back in the day. Dan Quisenberry was another one. What a release angle.

I haven't seen a true knuckleballer in a long time. There are some guys that will throw the pitch on occasion, more as a gimmick.

I could never figure out how to throw one despite all my efforts, lol.

Estrada, Hendricks, Yarbrough, and a good number of others don’t throw 90mph.. and quite a few others don’t throw 90mph pitches even though they can.

Like any sport, players are bigger and stronger nowadays, but “over 88mph” is at the bottom of concerns for who is a good pitcher. If a player can throw a pitch up a fly’s azz they’ll get drafted.

Pitching isn't about how hard you can throw, it's about the command you have over the pitches you do throw.

So tell me, why is it that the vast majority of minor leaguers with power arms who can’t seem to establish a 3rd or 4th MLB quality pitch are moved to the bullpen in order to length their careers, in hoping they end up being a high end reliever or closer?

Do you think MLB organizations do that with guys who throw 88?

None of those guys are elite pitchers and they are in that group of the handfuls that don’t throw over 90. I guess you proved my point.

I don’t know any pitcher that throws a ball up a flys ass but I do know that the vast majority of minor leaguers who start out as staring pitchers, who either can’t locate their fastball at a high percentage or do not come up with a 3rd or 4th quality MLB offering, are then moved to the bullpen to lengthen their pro careers, hoping that they turn into high end relievers or closers. I don’t think MLB organizations would do that for a guy who’s fastball sits at 88 mph, do you?
