Don't burn me for this, I didn't really follow the Dolphins as closely when he was with us. But if Linehan is hired as a coach would it be a good thing or a bad thing to bring Norv back as the ofeensive coordinator. It looks as though his days in Oakland are numbered.

do you have some sort of news source or link or SOMETHING that says "norv turners days are numbered/on his way out"? just curious

I think he needs to seriously turn this season around or else hes in real trouble. If he doesn't have the team performing at all cylinders at the end of the season I think he will be gone.

Norv clearly cannot work with the talent he is given based on the talk of his behavior dealing with Jay Fiedler. I wouldn't trust him to be OC on this team.

I heard his name mentioned with Dom Capers as coaches who will probably be job searching this next offseason, but no insider information. Just basically on ESPN and football shows.

Was he a bad coach, or why would you not want him back.

We know Wanny was a bad coach, but Norv didn't play well. He didn't change his offense to tailor it to the head coach's choice of strategy, which meant that Wanny overrode a lot of his calls. He also reportedly spent a significant amount of time complaining about Fiedler's inability to execute his vertical offense rather than tailoring an offense to the skills the QB had. Norv was the OC -- he needed to accept the reality of his situation and give the team an offense that fit both the HC's philosophy and the talent he had on the field. I cannot trust a man who refused to do that in the past with that job in the future.

Would he be able to get along with Saban? That is the only question that needs to be answered.

OIC, I didn't know he was like that.

I don't think that is true at all. For one thing, I don't think we want to change offenses again. The Linehan offense is pretty darn different from the one that both Martz and Turner run (they're kissing cousins, scheme-wise). Another concern is that if Turner couldn't work as a subordinate to Wanny, he might challenge Saban's authority at a later date even if he acts okay during the hiring process. Finally, I think it is clear that Norv wants to be a head coach. Do the Dolphins need to lose yet another coordinator because he goes elsewhere? I cannot imagine any NFL team would hire Norv as a head coach after he has two failed NFL stints, but he could probably get a college job.

I would hate to have Norv back...He was part of the declining dolphins and there is no reason to bring him back. After seeing the job Saban did this offseason he shouldn't have too much trouble finding a new OC provided that Scott leaves which is not for sure yet

I dont want him. I know his hands were somewhat tied by wanny but he did not impress me at all.

On the other hand, Norv was hired to be the OC yet kept getting undermined by Wanny. If reports are to be believed that Wanny kept overturning his calls, how on earth do you know whether Norv did in fact have a better gameplan for the offense????

I think he did in fact accept the "reality of his situation".
He realized that with a subpar QB and a Head Coach that was clueless, he was completely handcuffed and in essence "screwed".

It was apparent that he could'nt wait to get out of Miami.
I don't blame him.

That being said, I would'nt want him back though.
Bring in another coach that follows a similar plan as Linehan if he leaves. Too much turnover and changing systems can hamper a team just as much as lack of talent.

I think your line of reasoning would be one I would support but for two facts:

1) Wanny was GM-HC, making him Norv's boss. What the boss says goes. I don't want Norv coming on and deciding he doesn't want to listen to Nick any better than he did Dave.

2) Wanny played very well with Chan Gailey. That suggests to me that he was more than willing to give an OC the ability to run an offese their way if they actually chose to utilize the talents of the players provided and to tailor their approach to the one specified by the HC (conservative).
