When a quadriceps injury ended Ferguson’s season ended Nov. 19, it left a big hole in the middle of the Dolphins’ defense.

The 355-pound Soliai is filling it more effectively every week.

Last week at Jacksonville, Soliai had four tackles, including one for loss, and consistently collapsed the middle of the Jags line.

“Balling,” is how Ferguson described his protege’s recent play. “You can make a lot of money in this league doing that.”

i would like to resign J. Ferg 1 more year have him keep splitting time with Paul and we draft another NT so Ferg can tutor him as well. That would be the ideal scenario.

Solai is good hopefully he keeps improving size wise he is a freak so if he can connect the dots size and knowledge on how the position is played he can be deadly.

It's funny when I think about some of the ridiculous statements that have been made about various players before the season.

For instance...

1. Randy Starks should be cut - How many people said that when they first heard the news that he was arrested for what later amounted to having 9 people in a freight liner that looks like it comfortably seats 6 or 7? You guys know who you are.

2. Phil Merling tons of potential, Randy Starks is just a backup - I remember that one. There was this article talking about Miami's DE position and it talked purely about Merling and Langford, no mention of Starks whatsoever. I said to mention the DE position in Miami without mentioning Starks is just stupid because he played as much as any of them a year ago, and he did better than the rest of them. I'll never forget how someone tried to argue based purely on Starks' career stat lines that Randy would do absolutely nothing this year and that he'd achieved his full potential, he's just a backup, etc.

3. Brian Hartline was a total wasted draft pick - This one's all me. I said it, I admit it. I wasn't alone but that doesn't matter. I must have put on the idiot cap instead of thinking cap that day.

Other miscellaneous - Cameron Wake is "in the cut zone" (as in he's so bad he's currently set to be cut unless something changes, thanks Omar Kelly). Paul Soliai is a waste of a roster space, he should be cut. Joe Berger isn't worthy of a roster space, we're in trouble if he ever has to play. Chad Henne sucks. Pat White is the man. Ted Ginn will take the next step this year. Ryan Clady is better than Jake Long.

Plenty of 'oops' to go around.

This is the only one out of all of those that I'm guilty of. I still don't think it was a Great pick but he's contributing in a positive manner at least which is good enough for me.

On the other side of this post though there were a lot of people saying Ginn would suck, Wake would be a beast, etc... so to me it's a wash. Nobody really knows what any of these players are going to do, if you got it right then you basically just got lucky.

"Ted Ginn will take the next step this year."

Guilty as charged right here. Boy was I sadly disapointed. :boohoo:

I still don't understand how people think we are in desperate need of a NT. Yeah, an extra DT/NT that can play 3 downs would be nice, but we already have our massive flesh golem in Soliai.

I don't know about desperate but theres' definitely opportunity to grab a guy that will go out there and make big plays.

The funny thing is that last year a lot of people, myself included, were saying that when Henne got in there Ginn's game would pick up because of Henne's arm. It seems if anythign to have gotten worse. I give Ginn props for some nice sideline catches the last few weeks, but in terms of his drop in effectiveness I think that is one of the ironies of this year.

That is certainly a good opportunity and option but taking into account Fergies age and injuries I'd much rather get one of these excellent FA NT'S available that are all atleast 5 years younger. V.Wilfork, A.Franklin, C.Hampton, R.Pickett and G.Watson are all potentially FA's that would help us tremendousily.

Is it a desparate need? No, but in the 34 you need to make sure that position is solidified and there's a good crop of FA's available so it makes sense to upgrade while we can, when's the last time you remember this many real good NT'S available at the same time.

I wonder if Ferg will want to stick around another year and give a SB a shot? He and Soliai should be a good rotation now, and it gives us a little more flexibility on going after a NT in the draft.
