Nose Tackle Prospects..other than Raji or Brace

Ok I am pretty sure that most of us on here believe that BJ Raji and Ron Brace are and should be our selection to be our future nose tackle.

BUT....

I was wondering who out there could be another option or other guys we arent quite looking at right now.

Some guys i have looked up who have the size i would imagine would be a option at Nose.

PLEASE add anyone or let us know who you think and when we could get them.


Dorell Scott, Clemson
Height: 6-4. Weight: 313.
Projected 40 Time: 5.04.
Prjected Round (2009) 3

He seems to fit the mold but i didn't watch much Clemson so i don't know how he is in the game but stats say alot and he didnt do much. Just like Clemson.

Chris Baker, Hampton
Height: 6-2. Weight: 310.
Projected 40 Time: 5.03.
Projected Round (2009): 3-4.
How about putting Baker at the Nose next to his old teammate Langford. Penn State transfer and had a great season with 16.5 TFL and 8.5 sacks AND PLAYS IN A 3-4

Terrance Taylor, Michigan
Height: 6-0. Weight: 317.
Projected 40 Time: 5.11.
Projected Round (2009): 3-4.

Solid selection here former wrestler and very good with his hands can stay low and drive. Has pretty good technique wouldnt mind him.


These are just a few possibilities PLEASE comment or add someone one other than Raji or Brace.
 
NT's

Good thread, its nice to know that this draft is deep in most of the places we need help at.

3rdandinches named some other nice NT prospects in the "Ron Brace dillema" thread.

I think Taylor from Michigan would be the best pick of the above 3 since he is a bit heavier than Baker and has the prototype NT Body low to the ground and strong. Bakers 8-1/2 sacks are intriguing but a NT must be more than a penetrator he must take up extra blockers and space with his strength and size.

Its really nice to be able to look forward to having good drafts with our excellent front office, i was starting if we were cursed or somthing with our yearly draft day disasters, all hail Tuna + Co.
 
Baker and Scott, yes. Terrance Taylor, personally no.

I think if you're looking for NT prospects other than Brace and Raji, you need to be focusing on the following names:

1. Antonio Dixon, Miami. 6'3" and 324 pounds. Former scout Tom Marino likes him, thinks he has great potential if you can get him committed to football and working hard. Gets up off the snap, can hold the point well, and is a good bull rusher.

2. Myron Pryor, Kentucky. 6'0" and 310 pounds. He has stood out in the past at Kentucky. Going against All Star competition at the Shrine Game, he stood out for his ability to hold up at the point and then get off blocks to make plays on the ball. He had that unblockable thing going for him which will draw doubles, and that's important.

3. Darryl Richard, Georgia Tech. 6'3" and 306 pounds. Richard looked like the more finished product to me at the Shrine Game. He fired out low and with great explosion in short yardage situations. He took on double teams and held his ground while others were allowed to make the plays. He uses his hands, and he's an incredibly smart player with a great academic background that IMO can learn the leverage game and make up for his lack of elite level athleticism with quick thinking and technique. He had a very solid week of Shrine practices.

1. Pernell Phillips, Central State. 6'0" and 330+ pounds. Had about 9 pro scouts present at his conference championship game, fires out low and quick off the ball, understands leverage, stacks and sheds like an NFL veteran. (All credit to Boomer for information on Phillips).

Thanks for the input where do you see these guys going I know that small school or little known prospects dont get much love when we take them "early".

Do you think these guys will be there in the 4th or 5th or will we have to grab one in the 3rd. Honestly i think this is by far the most important position on the Defensive side of the ball so the sooner the better.

But given your analysis i would say Phillips and Pryor seem to be very good fits to be a NT. Because it is such a rare quality to be a gifted NT alot of analysis is gonna have to go into getting one.
 
Thanks for updating us on other prospects guys, unfortunately I watch alot of College football usually but my first child has put a dent into my TV time. I like the sounds of Phillips, but alos Dixon and Scott seem to have the height that BP and crew like, seems like they usually go with taller NT than other teams. Maybe I'm just rading into things too much.

we already have this guy

CKP what is you opinion on the height on a NT? is it that important?

is there a taller guy out their who could grow into a 2-gapper?
 
Baker had legal problems at Penn St. so he probably would not even be on the trifecta's draft board. Scott has a reputation of being lazy and not having a very active motor which is not that abnormal for these bigger guys but still is of concern. He has a lot of ability and with Ferggie on his butt maybe he might develop.

I dont know if any of these guys would be better than a Colin Cole the FA DT from GB, who might cost a little more $$$ but would save us a draft pick. Also, NT's take some time to develop so going the FA route might be a better option assuming Raji doest'nt fall.

There's still too much process remaining to put rounds on these guys. Pryor and Richard will probably be looking at that 4th to 6th round area. Antonio Dixon, anywhere from 5th to 7th to undrafted if he fails to impress in interviews.

What do you mean by we already have this guy?

There does seem to be a certain height/weight ratio that works for the NT position. If a guy is 6'4" then he's going to have to be around 340 or so, I think. If a guy is 6'0" then he probably maxes out around 315. I don't know what the Dolphins' feelings on this are. I think generally the bigger, the better. Certainly anyone and everyone would welcome a Haloti Ngata. But our front office has shown an affinity for some smaller guys. Jay Ratliff was a skinnier 6'4" and 300 pounds. Jason Ferguson is 6'3" and 305 or maybe 310. They really liked Sedrick Ellis in the draft and he was like 6'1" and maybe 305. I wouldn't go so far as saying they demand or prefer guys to be that small, but they're certainly at the very least OK with it.

I think he meant Paul Solai. Actually, Solai is a much bigger version

exactly, collecting NT's that might wanna play doesn't appeal to me

if Solai wanted to ball, would we be having this discussion?
