Active Roster
Paul Soliai is the 17th best defensive tackle. He’s played the third fewest snaps of everyone in the top 20.
Karlos Dansby, who has played 211 snaps, is rated the 40th inside linebacker. In fairness to Dansby, he was/is nursing a groin injury. Kevin Burnett, who has played 276 snaps, is rated 43rd, which is last amongst all the inside linebacker who have played at least 25 percent of their teams snaps.
Sean Smith, who has annually be rated fairly high by ProFootballFocus, presently ranks 57th after playing 273 snaps. Smith has been thrown at 22 times and allowed 14 receptions. He’s given up three touchdowns this season. In his first two seasons Smith allowed five (one last season, and four his rookie year).
Reshad Jones is ranked the 78th best safety in the NFL, and Yeremiah Bell is ranked 81sts. Keep in mind there are only 64 starting safeties in the NFL
Randy Starks is the fourth rated 3-4 defensive end. But he’s only played 174 snaps, which is less than all but two players in the top 10. The top two 3-4 defensive ends (both from the 49ers) have played over 300 snaps.
Jared Odrick is the 18th ranked 3-4 defensive end, and Kendall Langford’s ranked 26. That’s a huge dropoff for Langford, who finished fifth in ProFootballFocus position ranking in 2010.
