Exactly what is our situation with Danute cap wise?? Are we tied to him long term or if we so wanted, could we go in another direction??
Also what is the Brees deal like?? Who has the leverage in that deal, the saints or Brees??
I know I'm dreaming like I did before we had the decision to go after Danute instead of Brees, but is it even in the realm of possiblity that we could end up with Brees?? I know it would be hard to convince him after the way we treated him last offseason, but hey money talks and I would be willing to throw a few bucks his way to see him here next year. Whatdaya all say, lets chip in and see if we can raise enough to help Wayne get him here.

Just don't be an "I told you so" guy in 07 when Pep is lighting it up. Stick to your guns.

haha at first brees's contract seemed like a 1 yr deal essentially but after the year he's having there is a less than 0% chance that the saints let him go...i believe it costs us almost as much money to release daunte than to keep him so he'll be back...shoulda chipped in the money last year buddy

Stranger things have happened. Right now the cap hit for 2007 is a whopping $15M (+ the prorated signing bonus) for Brees. I'm sure he'll just restructure and spread the roster bonus out as another signing bonus if the Saints just don't want to eat it all next year.

The contract includes a $8 million signing bonus and $2 million in base salary this season that is fully gauranteed this season. In 2007, Brees is set to earn a $3 million in base salary and a whopping $12 million roster bonus in 2007. Brees had reportedly been looking for $10 million per season and got it, but the massive roster bonus in 2007 dictates today that the contract will not stand in one calendar year. Even though the Saints are one of the more cap healthy teams in the league, a 2007 cap hit of at least $15 million is not something that will stand. The Saints are forcing themselves today to either cut Brees next February or renegotiate the deal to spread the cap hit out over the length of the contract.

What are you talking about we had our chance to get Brees it didnt happen he cant leave the Saints just like Danute can't leave Miami without the teams taking a major salary cap hit.

Hey, if Danute lights it up next year I will be his biggest fan. I think he is a great guy and teammate and leader. Or at least used to be. I don't hate Danute I am just asking. Thats why I wrote the thread like I did.
I personally think Danute will never be the kind of QB who can make quick smart fast decisions like even Joey. He is MUCH more talented as far as pure talent but to go deep into the playoffs you need more than talent, you need something between your ears. You need to be able to out think, out smart, and figure out what they are doing before they get you figured out.
If we are tied to Danute longterm then so be it, but I was just wondering what our options were.

There has got be something in his contract about not being able to play because of his injury and recouping money or somehting. I just can't see how we anyone wouldnt put a clause like that into a contract

I think any player or person has the ability to make themselves smarter. My work in the classroom, home, whatever. They just have to work at it. It takes some work ethic and I think Daunte can do that. For some... It just takes alot more work, but anyone can do it.

Oops.... Anyway, I don't see us signing another qb. We're going to stick with Joey or Daunte. One of them needs to handidly take the job and then they have to keep it. We can win games with Joey, the way our defense is playing. But those games the defense doesn't bring it, I believe Daunte can win those games for us.

I don't think Daunte or Joey are the answer. We need to draft a QB early in the 2007 draft.

:sidelol: Yeah, let me guess. Troy Smith?

...and now for the thread....No we are not getting Brees after the season. Sorry, but Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are not available either......:shakeno:
