It seems to me Sammy was busted on a technicallity:

From the Sun-Sentinel:
[FONT=Verdana,Arial, Helvetica]"Morris' attorney, David Cornwell, who helped draft the policies while employed by the NFL, said Morris had taken Sudafed, an over-the-counter cold remedy, to help combat his chronic sinusitis and upper respiratory disorders, and the positive results were due to inadequate testing by the laboratory.

Sudafed contains pseudoephedrine, which also violates the policy unless prescribed by a member of the team's medical staff. According to Cornwell, Dolphins trainer Kevin O'Neill confirmed during the appeals process that Morris ingested the Sudafed he prescribed on Oct. 16 and that he had treated Morris for the same condition on several other occasions."

[FONT=Verdana,Arial, Helvetica] We don't know what happened, but maybe this is truth. I point this out because I've read a number of people saying, "he cheated", "he's a bum", "how could he do this to us", etc. I mean really, isn't that a bit harsh for taking an over the counter cold medicine on suggestion of a TEAM trainer?

Please, don't tell me just because of that he's a horrible person.

Most people don't read beyond the headline. I was listening to Rome this morning (I rarely do this and now I'm reminded why) and he was thrashing Morris for doping. He didn't give any specifics. All he said was that NFL players like to dope and mentioned the suspension. It was the usual fact-filled reporting job he always does. LOL

Isnt it the trainers fault for giving Sammie something that was banned. Shouldnt he know that the stuff is banned?

I don't think he's a horrible person but I can tell you that the NFL didn't believe his agent's story because if it were true he'd have been within the rules and would not have been in violation of the policy. They have already denied his appeal so they had a chance to hear his side of the story. There's something we don't know going on there.

He wasn't roommates with Ricky last year was he?
It looks like Ricky rubbed off on him in the wrong ways!

It seems like if it played out the way his lawyer is saying he wouldnt have been suspended. Also, the fact that he is being suspended says this isnt his first violation. I'm not going to take the word of his lawyer, the NFL isnt this dumb

No player is going to admit they were using, they always throw out some excuse for sympathy.

I don't know. That may be a short sighted opinion. Maybe with all the problems with baseball and cycling the NFL is adopting a more "no tolerance" approach. Its possible that by the time the appeal came around there was no to prove one way or another. If there are people who beat the system than its feasible there are times the system beats the people. Or maybe I'm completely wrong. However, I don't ever remeber LT (Lawerence Taylor) denying his coccaine addiction.

Pseudoephedrine is considered a performance enhancer, which the NFL does in fact suspend for on the first offense (see the case of Julius Peppers, who was also suspended for four games on a first offense for taking Sudafed, though his trainer didn't prescribe it so he didn't challenge the suspension). Things like pot are what players get multiple chances on. Not something that theoretically could jeopardize the integrity of the game.

According to the article, Sudafed is legal if administered by a trainer to treat a medical condition.

Hate to tell you but you are wrong about this not being his first violation.

The NFL's steroid policy, which in this case is the title of the violation, states that a first time offense is an automatic 4 game suspension.

The substance abuse policy on the other hand states that a first time offense you join their abuse policy with no suspension.

This is his first offense.

It's so funny reading everyone getting pissed off at the NFL, LOL like the NFL is that dumb.

The fact is, we don't have enough information to bash or defend at this point. All I know is that the whole situation sucks ***.
