again today... we outrush them and lose the clock, 25:58 to 34:02...

We're second to last in the league in time of possession... only to San Fran.

what gives? we run the ball decently... I noticed a little hurry-up today... but is there something about our scheme? This must really wear on the defense.... "The oldest starting defense in the NFL"... I hope this changes for next year, and we rely a bit more on the run -- or at least, milking some clock....

We have a faster striking offense then we are used to.... We had that long TD pass and the 20 odd TD run and also a couple deep passes. But I would think our time of possesion would be better.

well last week San Diego dominated us in that aspect of the game but our touchdown drives were really short

We don't play to control the ball, we play to score. There's a pretty decent difference. The T.O.P. is therefore pretty sensitive to how our defense is able to get ourselves off the field on 3rd down. Last week and today I dont think we did that so well.

playing to score is nice.... and it does sound very Linnehan/Vikingish...

but over the long haul, the profile of the team that can control the clock more consistently is the team more likely to consistently rack up victories....

The Patriots don't play offense to control the clock. They play to score points, and their defense plays to get themselves off the field on 3rd down to give their offense more opportunities to score points.

the patriots have had barely any Dillon/running game this year... further, they're the best short passing team in the NFL, and make it an extension of their running game... they most certainly did try to control the clock in their two playoff wins over Indy...

As would the Phins, if they were playing a dangerous offense like Indy's. The Pats don't purposely use the short passing game like a running game. They do it out of necessity, because their OL has been bad and the thing they have going for them is Tom Brady, those WRs, and Corey Dillon and the RBs (when healthy).

We were passing not running, those incompletions stop the clock...done.

The offence is geared towards producing big plays. The phins are in the top 2 or 3 teams with plays of 40+ yards. I'd rather have every 2 out of 3 drives be short and the 3rd one be a monster (Saban) than have an offence that just grinds out yards but doesn't score very often (Wannstadt). Plus the defence seems to be producing more turnovers so the offence has more opportunities to score on short field drives.
