The close friendship between
Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. is one of the great storylines of the Dolphins game against the New York Giants on Monday night, and another subplot involves their plans to put on a show in pregame warmups.
Both of them dropped hints during separate conference calls Wednesday at planning something special for the warmups, but Landry just cracked a smile when he was asked Thursday for details.
“I think you just have to wait and see,” he said.
The prospect of a spectacle put on by Landry and Beckham, both known for their one-handed catches, has generated enough publicity that ESPN is pushing it while promoting its weekend NFL coverage plans.
This is what an ESPN release said: “Before they became NFL stars, Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry were teammates at LSU. Now as they meet on Monday night for the first time as professionals, the self-described best friends are promising a catching contest during warmups and ‘Countdown’ will be there for an all-access pass to the pregame pass-catching display.”
Dolphins Interim Head Coach Dan Campbell was asked Thursday whether he had an issue with one of his players having such a close friend on an upcoming opponent’s roster.
“I don’t have a problem with that,” Campbell said. “It’s not like he’s going to tell him secrets ... at least I hope not. I don’t have a problem with that. As long as they don’t get hurt doing something stupid before the game, I don’t have a problem if they want to put on a show. Whatever gets Jarvis Landry ready to go is fine with me.”
