Rookie Bobby McCain didn’t get a lot of playing time in the past two games, but he’ll get a big opportunity Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens when he’s expected to start.

And he’s planning on making the most of it.

“It’s really exciting,” McCain said Thursday. “It’s a great opportunity for me to just show my skills, show my ability and go out and compete and try to win the ballgame.”

Interim Head Coach Dan Campbell said Wednesday that McCain would get the start against Baltimore if he had a good week of practice, and said Thursday that’s just what happened in the first two practices of the week.

Defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo said what the Dolphins like about McCain is his competitiveness and playmaking ability, then pointed out McCain had a nice interception in practice Thursday.

A start against Baltimore would be the first of McCain’s career, although he did play 95 of 96 defensive snaps of the game at Philadelphia — just not the first one.

Since then, though, McCain combined for five defensive snaps in the games against Dallas and the New York Jets.

“That’s the name of the game,” McCain said. “You’ve just got to be ready when your number is called. You’ve got to perform and I feel like I can do that.”

I don't care if he's not optimal in the boundary. I hope they sit Taylor, have Brice McCain in the slot where they know he is decent and see if this kid channel a little Brent Grimes on the outside. I thought he was serviceable against Philly.

Taylor sucks so bad...this guy has to be better!

Anyone still want to tell me, "we will be fine with Taylor...."?

He showed he could play outside when filling in nicely when Grimes was sick. The next week he inexplicably rode the bench while Taylor did his usual penalty thing that cost us a sack and played poorly over all. I'd be happy if Taylor never saw the field again and was cut in the off season. Yet another wasted 2nd round pick.

Man or zone? A pressing debate at Miami Dolphins headquarters

There is one constant variable for every member of the Dolphins’ defensive backfield: a punchless pass rush.

Miami has just 23 sacks in 2015 — and seven of those belong to Cameron Wake, who hasn’t played since Week 8.

If that doesn’t change, it’s hard to see how McCain, who had an interception in practice Thursday, will be any more successful than Grimes or Taylor.

“Bobby does not lack confidence and the game is not too big for him,” Campbell said. “He’s somebody who will challenge the receivers. He’s gritty. He’s going to give up a few plays, it comes with the position, but it’s not going to affect the way he plays or gets in his head. I know he’ll go out there and compete.”

They actually need to play Lippet as he's the only corner we on the roster that can match up with the big receivers. We need to see what he can do.

This is one case where I think the lack of pass rush may be blamed on coverage...not the other way around. How can the DL be expected to pressure consistently when the receivers are open from the moment of the snap...we don't cover anything!

Especially in the case of Taylor. His man has been an outlet for the QB when he was under pressure again, and again, and again.

I don't get out how they are treating Bobby McCain. It seems like some group dysfunction held over from Philbin and Coyle. He held his own nicely against the Eagles when Grimes was hurt. You'd think the staff would want to build on that.

Jamar Taylor stinks. We are wasting bad snaps on him. Losing snaps first of all. Second of all, they could be used as developmental snaps for McCain or even Lippett.

Lastly, I don't get the all or nothing mentality. Even if the coaching staff thought Taylor was practicing better than Bobby, why are Bobby's game snaps dropped to next to nil? It doesn't make sense. Even assuming arguendo you thought Taylor was better, you can still work Bobby McCain in for some more snaps to develop him, for example, for 20 snaps. 3-4 snaps is bad judgement.

The same is true for Lippett. He's got length. Throw him on Brandon Marshall for a play or two and see what happens. It can't be worse than what happened with the eight inch mismatch with Grimes. Lippett played at Michigan State. He's played in big games. He's inexperienced but give him some snaps to put on film and improve on going into 2016.

Look at the improvement in confidence in Parker as the game went on as he got snaps. We've got to work the kinks out on these young guys. We've got easily 12-15 guys that need playing time these last five games. I don't mean necessarily as starters. I just mean working them in for some snaps.

That staff is clueless...

Look how they have handled Parker, Phillips, Turner, or any other rookie and young players that doesn't have perfect technique. How the hell do you expect to develop these guys if you bring them along at a snails pace.

How does Belichick do it? The Pats seem to always have fresh blood on the field every year. Do they put them on the bench the first year or does he play his guys straight away?
