i decided to punish myself again and re-watch the fin-houston game. first freakin offensive play is a screen pass to brown. play is setup perfect. Houston player blitzes up the middle. Culpepper has plenty of time to swing the ball out to brown except he stands there like the statue of liberty and gets sacked. series over. everyone is blaming mularkey, the o line etc. Well i hate to break it to you guys but DC is the problem. Unless everything suddenly starts to click for him we are in for a long season. He is passing it to the wrong guys consistently. example: third down play he passes to brown in the flat instead of hitting walker who was wide open for the first. series over. I'm sure the coaches know this and are hoping something clicks in soon. I cant imagine saban putting up with this stuff all year. Sure there are other problems but DC is the main problem. He shows just enought talent to keep his qb spot. He is a great athletic qb but damn he has to make quicker decisions. This offensive performance is effecting the entire team. Every team in nfl knows he will stand back there like an idiot so they all bring the blitz consistently. Unless he starts to hurt people for blitzing him it will not change. Since they are bringing extra guys consistently there are no running lanes for brown. This whole qb situation is like groundhog day. It makes me sick to my stomach that we could have had brees and chose this slug. i hope we see joey in the second half this weekend if we are getting spanked again.

another blame CPEP thread......"Put in Joey"....."wheres Gus"....."better with Fielder"....enough, CPEP has to share some of the blame, but NO QB would have better results to date.

I mean if you are talking about the first play from the Houston game . . . the play took too long to develop. When CPep turned around to pass a guy was already tackling him . . . how was he a statue? U make it seem like he had all day, when clearly somebody came in unblocked. As for the third down play, I'm not sure of the play . . . but u don't know if the call was to Brown . . .or Brown was the first option . . . u can only call out Pep when he has time to throw and doesn't find a man open and gets sacked (funny u don't wanna bring up the pass to Welker in the Titan game WHEN HE HAD TIME . . . he found Welker after going thru his reads, why don't fans bring up the positive . . . only bring up the negative when he has no time). To say somebody was a better option on the play is like watching every pass play in the NFL, a million times guys are in better position to receive the pass. Don't single out Pep for that.

I'm dying for Saban to send in somebody else, so we can really see that people who say NOTHING WRONG WITH THE LINE . . . can WAKE UP.

oh no, he had plenty of time to pass that ball. this was the first play. i'm sure it was scripted. he just took the sack. He has to make that play. maybe in the past he could shrug that db off of him but not now with that knee. maybe that's his problem. He thinks he can do some things he no longer can because of the injury.

No if I remember correctly . . .the first play was he faked the handoff and they faked a reverse/end around . . . and Pep turned around to throw and before he could even set his feet . . .he was on the ground . . . sorry man, maybe the play was more than 4 seconds . . . but Pep had under a second to throw.

i would almost guarantee we would be 2-2 with joey in there. sure one game better but thats the difference between sitting home or playoffs.

What are you talking about? The very first play, Culpepper fakes a handoff to Brown, turns around to his right, and gets sacked half a second later by a Texan who was NOT blocked. Was Brown supposed to block this guy, or was the line supposed to block this guy? In either scenario, the guy was not blocked, and Culpepper had literally no time to react.

Sometimes I think the Culpepper detractors are seeing only what they want to see.

i just watched the play again. your description is correct. but he had time to pass. the had the ball up by his ear. all he had to do was let it go. He hesitated for a second and that was it. If you re-watch it you will see. This indecision is killing us. brady, payton, marino, farve, losman, etc... all these guys would have made this throw. this was a scripted play. he should be able to throw it in his sleep. You can't hesitate back there. you got to make the pass. this is just an example play. there were plenty more fantastic plays by the statue of liberty back there. I hate to bash him but i want to win some games...

I so much agree with this thread! When Joey finally goes in, because it WILL happen (i just hope the season isnt over for us when it does) you all will be in shock of how awsome this team will look with him at QB. I mean how much loosing do we have to do! Brees went into NO with all new people his timing seems fine.

but everyone on finheaven will say our offensive line has jelled when actually the qb is making quick decisive throws.

I'm glad u are bringing up this play . . . because this play right here SET THE TONE for the rest of the game. U know its a play they have practiced . . . CPep probably had a good week of practice . . . gained confidence in his line . . . and low and behold, BAM . . . a missed block, SACK. U say he hesistated and that "he should have let it go" . . . this is a designed play, and I'm pretty sure when they ran it in practice . . .he had more than one second to fire the ball. Point is, when he turns towards forward, he can see the blitzer gonna nail him, by the time is feet are set, he already is being contacted . . . I think Manning takes a sack on that as well as other SMART Qb's would, but that is my opinion.

put down the pipe

lets examine our o line. lj shelton sucks but he is an upgrade over mac. jeno is still left guard (push) hadnot is upgrade over mckinney. right guard is a downgrade. carey this year versus carey last year is an upgrade. our o line didn't look this bad last year and we've actually upgraded it. HHHMMM what do you think is going on. ? HHHMMM do we have to spell it out. DC!!!!

You base this on what facts??? No other QB has been given a chance to play this year but ColdPepper and he has shown zip so far. If you look at the preseason games, you will find that he was outplayed badly by Harrington and Lemon.
