To me it’s not surprising the obvious factor “intelligence” is playing with certain players emerging early. Prime example; Smith and Hartline are both high IQ guys. And then factor in guys like Camarillo, JT, Pennington, Bell etc. and it’s pretty obvious its important to be smart in the NFL.

I’m not naming names, but there are some duh dudes on the roster who are definitely lower IQ types and their game and/or stunted development/slow development is certainly predictable in that way.

Now before anyone goes off on a tangent, physical talent is still critical – but the IQ factor seems critical as well IMO.

also, factoring duh-dude development is critical in a predictable way, if i know what i mean.

yo 72, can you slow it down... "run deep towards the goal post on 3, hike..."

Crowder is a lot smarter than people give him credit for. He likes to seem like a duh-dude. He's no Penny, and yeah he's totally nuts, but actually quite sharp.

Zach Thomas is the best linebacker we've ever had and he was as dumb as a bag of rocks. It's game intelligence, football IQ. I don't know how you can classify guys like Smith and Hartline with that when we've yet to even see them play.

Yea, Channing is pretty smart but not real bright.

How smart is Teddy Ginn?

How about Wilford?

How smart was Jerry rice? Steve Lergent?

I honestly don't know how really dumb chits get drafted so high sometimes...

Zack talked Tesas dumb but he was a very bright bulb otherwise. He wasn't dumb that's for sure IMO.

I've heard him do many interviews (non-serious) on shows such as Inside the NFL or The Best Damn Sports show where they'd ask him simple questions and he'd get them wrong.

I think it is a factor but a much smaller factor than some people think, and it depends on what position you're talking about as well.

Just look at Emmit 'Smiff' and that other retired HOF crack-head from Dallas. Both of those guys combined have the brain power of a chipmunk. No disrespect intended to those chipmunks that can water ski and open tupperware containers. :chuckle:

On the other hand Donald Thomas is obviously a sharp guy, as is Crowder.

Channing likes to goof around, but I'd be willing to wager a couple of pitchers that he is MUCH BRIGHTER than most of the local Dolphins beat writers. His sense of humor goes miles over their heads, so when they write about him they obviously are missing his point most of the time. He's by no means an intellectual but those guys are real m0r0ns.

I think it is so cool that his dad played for the Dolphins all those years ago, even if they are not close...

Well he was smart enough to break down film on his own and studied the game as much as anyone. Maybe he couldn't see Russia from the porch but he could read a play like onetwothree.

I’m no fan of Emmitt Smith but he wasn’t dumb. And Michael Irvin is a very bright guy. There’s a difference between dumb decisions and having a low IQ.

Yea, Channing is very intelligent but not real bright -- as in the dude does some dumb lookin stuff.

anyone who as actually played football, esp on hte offensive side of the ball (i dont have much experience with D) knows that it is not just this elusive "game iq" stuff. Actual IQ plays a huge part. Reads, different plays, etc etc etc etc etc are hard to learn and require actual book studying. Esp for QBS and O Lineman. so even a guy like pat white who seems to speak slow and hesitant, its more b/c hes from alabama (i think??) he has to be smart to understand how to read defenses, to memorize all those plays etc etc...centers have a very hard job as well.

my point being - IQ is playing a big part in this thing hands down. But know that in time, the other guys will catch up....its hard to grasp all the info coming at u this early. Im still a huge hartline fan though and smith too.... i like vantae n turner but i just see hartline and smith as shining more off the bat
