I was watching the games highlights which were very few and noticed something about the O-line which made me see why they suck at run blocking and pass protection. When there is a pass play the entire line gets to their blocking positions slower than the other team starts to rush the QB. Then they seem to spread out and create large gaps for the defense to penatrate. The offensive line as a whole are very slow to react to blitzes and play as individuals instead of one cohesive unit.
When there is a run play they all stand up and are meet by the defense before they can get any push at all. its like they never never drive the defense back off the ball which leaves no room for the running backs and creates no holes to run through. In all they are slow of the ball and need to work as a unit not individuals.

Good points that you made. There were several plays that there just wasn't enough protection. IE Keith Bullock sack. They brought more guys on the blitz than we had blocking. The main priority that they need to reinforce this week in practice is the o-line. We MUST protect Daunte. This will only slow his transgression if the o-line continues to let him get beat up every time he snaps the ball. People keep forgetting when he was in Mnnesota, he had a decent o-line. They didn't produce phenomenal on the run but he had more time to do the things he's good at. I know he lost a step since his injury, but you would think that since they know that, they would make a bigger impact on doing so. I mean look at what Ronnie did on the ground yesterday. 26 carries for 90 yards....the guy is making his own yards up for himself....he's carrying 3 guys on his back 2 guys on his back every other down...anyways, good points though....

No running back will last very long with this offensive line. We need some push up front.

Keep in mind some things. The oline got better as the game went on. We are a second half team. Ronnie startered to batter them into submission. Injury after injury started to occur. The Oline is still confused because DC is changing plays at the LOS. When teams bring 9 in the box, well, they need to get back to what they were doing last year. Most all of our linemen know what that is. They just need to keep making strides and execute to the best of their ability. The offense as a whole, needs to communicate within each other -- linemen to Wr's/TE's QB to Oline and Oline amongst each other. Other blocking assignments missed are TE's and FB's like Saban has said.

The getting off the ball is a part of that. I am just glad they werent jumping offsides. Cus that was our biggest probl last year. So alot of what you see, is not really what is seen, but rather what you are not seeing. If the defense gets off the ball quicker, that means a nice screen pass is just what the doctor ordered. A nice end around starts to screw them up bigtime when they do that. So it is strategy as much as it is anything else. Good teams react to situations. We did pretty good in the second hald in coming back from those screwups.

So is that strength/talent or technique/coaching?
Coming from someone who knows nothing about coaching OL ... I would think that it's both. Gaining leverage is primarily a technique/coaching issue (also associated with strength). But, if you're slow, then that's primarily a talent issue.

So, it could be a case where the OL knows what to do (or at least coached on what to do), but they're too slow to do it. I really hope that's not the case because all the coaching in the world won't help that.

Our O-line is absolutely terrible, last year at this time the line had only given up 2 sacks. Plus they completely shut out the panthers, thats right the panthers with maybe the best d-line in the league and also denver didn't get a sack in the fist game. Now i think C-pep is holding onto the ball too long sometimes but a 13 sack difference is just terrible. I keep trying to stick up for the line thinking that they just need to gel, but this is ridiculous, i am really hoping that it all works itself out.

A little of both. We have the strength ( a big line with many at thre hundred plus lbs.) but talent may be lacking. Technique is through coaching and slow starts can be worked on unless our O-line just plain sucks.:dolphins:

its a different blocking scheme than it was last year
...and obviously, the oline cant pick it up
