When are these guys going to step up into a conference and play real teams all year? Nevermind Stanford, Air Force, Navy and so on... how they get the ranking they get every year is beyond me. Their well deserved embarassment last night against LSU is a perfect example of how overrated this team is every year. They were just saying on sportscenter this morning they 0-16 against top 10 rated teams in the last several years. Step up, get into a conference, play some good teams other than msu, michigan and usc every year... then maybe ill have a bit of respect for them... but as of now. absolutely none. and i'm glad they were embarassed in front of the nation last night.

they will never get into a conference. $$$$$$

There would still be the same problem
the big east is getting better evry year you now the big three and some smaller teams making noise like south florida etc and they can still play usc and michigan every year

The much overhyped Notre Dame program has now lost a record 9th consecutive bowl game. :chuckle:

Is this because the program is a complete joke?

Absolutely not, they have a good program there, the problem is that they are consistantly given more credit than they deserve. This leads to a much higher ranking than they deserve and their inclusion in bowl games that they have no business being in.

It's way past time for the voters to OPEN THEIR EYES and wake up ...

THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES!!!

Have you noticed the current standings as to conference bowl records? Or are you still stuck in your "The-Big-East-Sucks-so-let's-make-jokes-at-their-expense" mode?

This statement is coming from a guy whose team is in an even worse confernce (at least this year) the ACC. How did the Hurricanes do v.s. Louiville? Oh and Louiville beat the ACC Champion and West Virginia beat the runner up Georgia Tech.

We all know ND is over-rated, but I don't think we can change that anytime soon. Too many of the national media are Catholics and are still living in the past glory.

The real problem now is since Weis is beating all the teams he is supposed to beat, people automatically think ND is back in the upper tier of college football. Yes, he beat Mich State and GT this year. Both of those teams are barely top 25 at best and ND struggled to beat them. What does that tell you? ND is just barely better than top 25. Maybe around 20 or high teens. There is no way they should be playing in a BCS game. Everytime they played a top 5/10 team this year they got BLOWN out.

As much as it is annoying to watch an one-sided game, just hope your team is the team slotted to play ND in the Bowl game! Because I really don't see it changing anytime soon.

ND schedule is overrated. It's isn't that tough. They play Michigan every year. They play USC every year. Big deal. After that its the Army, Air Force, Mich St, Stanford's of the world. Decent teams but nothing special.

They will never join a conference, don't have too. Make too much money now. Problem is everyone wants them to be good every year and they just aren't. They are middle of the road team in almost every conference. Since they stand alone and can make their own schedule they always look better than they are. And they will get exposed in bowl games every year

I agree. But that isnt ND's fault. The coaches, sportswriters etc all overrate ND and put them in a bowl they dont deserve. Cant blame the team though, we dont select the bowl matchups.

As for ND needing to join a conference, it's just a stupid argument. Look at our strength of schedule year in and year out and compare it to any team not in the SEC. What would a conference change? Nothing as far as SoS goes. It would just make it harder to get into a BCS game. We arent joining a conference though, you'd have more luck with them tweaking the BCS formula for when ND gets an at large bid.

These are all valid points. The media has strong arm when it comes to lifting teams. Notre Dame makes too much money on football to join a conference; they can schedule whomever they want. I think in the coming years you'll see them start scheduling tougher opponents. I know Louisville is working on a series with them.

Louisville used to be an independent in football before it joined C-USA and eventually the Big East. Howard Schnellenberger was against joining a conference, he wanted to stay an independent. That's one of the reasons why he left Louisville. Its more flexability in scheduling, you can determine your own SOS.
