Okay I don't get it.

kiper has quinn falling like a meteor for weeks and he has a pro day where throws a few balls around and suddenly he is the number 2 pick in the mock.

How does anybody take this guy seriously? Does he have any insight, beyond stating the obvious. How many times does his mock change before the draft and how many picks does he get right.

Not including the ones where he comes on just before the pick and says so and so is taking this guy. Like you didn't just get off the phone with somebody bro.

Anybody??

In my opinion Kiper does kno all of the college players eligable for the draft but thats his job.....i think its hard to have that kind of audience to a mock...lots of critics....but he is an idiot when it comes to stiking with his original plan and thoughts!

Kiper knows his stuff. And he doesn't only do this with the pro days and combines, he talks with scouts from all the teams. So he puts his opinions based on all the information gathered from the combines, pro days, and scouts.

Everyone's mock draft drastically changes from the day College football season begins, till a month before the draft begins.

who the hell is mel kiper anyway,i agree,i know things change after schools have there pro days, but he is all over the place and most gm's think he is a joke also

Mel's Big Board is not his mock draft. It's more like a stock market of prospects, where he tracks their rising and falling in the eyes of NFL teams. Quinn has been steadily moving up the board. Last week he was #5. If he thinks the Lions are going to pick Quin at #2, and they very well might, why not lost him as the #2 prospect on the Big Board?

Oh Really which GMs might these be and how exactly do you know?

Numerous teams have asked Mel Kiper to be their director of player evaluations because he is absolutely genius when it comes to evaluating a player's ability, but he doesnt know much as far as teams needs goes.. so his mocks tend to be a bit off

He looked good enough to jump 8 spots..

I have heard his workout went well, but nothing astonishing.
The highlights they showed on espn, left me wondering why they even showed them..

the receivers were slowing down to let the ball catch up, and they even showed one bad throw and one drop.

maybe they did that on purpose to get you to watch who knows..

I just don't get mel thats all.

By no means do I think he is the draft god that some do, but the guy does know his stuff and he has his eyes and ears in a lot of front offices. If Quinn is rising, it's probably because he is hearing that from team scouts across the league.

Anything can happen come draft day. We have seen that with all sorts of guys. Aaron Rodgers comes to mind. But I think it is safe to assume that Quinn will be gone by the time we pick. After today, I also think Adrian Peterson will be as well. So we are essentially where most of us have assumed we would be. Levi Brown is pretty much the only offensive player worth taking at our pick. Other than that, we have our choice of Landry, Hall, or one of the top defensive linemen if one of them happens to fall.

Unless we trade up, let's just forget about drafting Quinn. It's been fun dreaming about the possibility, but it's time to wake up and move on in my opinion. I say we follow the Jets 2006 blueprint, and with our first two picks, draft two studs along the OL.....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

I'm sure somebody else will move up or down before the draft starts. It would be nice to draft Quinn, but I agree, it's just a dream now. Get an O-Line early and maybe draft a gem or 2 in the later rounds.

I just read this, but I wouldn't read too much into it.

Lions general manager Matt Millen was conspicuous by his absence from Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn's Pro Day workout last week. Millen's absence seems to indicate that the Lions will bypass a QB and take Wisconsin offensive tackle Joe Thomas.

Too be fair (although Kiper annoys me and he's no more right on the draft than anyone else), when you have a player going somewhere in a mock it doesn't mean you think that's his overall rating. For example, Quinn he had at 9 to us for the longest time, but Quinn wasn't 9 on his actual "big board". Just because a player is 1, 2, or 3 doesn't mean he's taken #1, 2, or 3 overall, it's all based on team needs.

At the time Kiper made the mock that had Quinn slipping to us (which was weeks ago because that ticker has had us taking Quinn for over 2 weks now), it looked realistic. Detroit was looking for an OT and Joe Thomas looked like their pick. Cleveland was looking for a RB and Peterson looked to be the guy, or maybe Alan Branch. The Texans were still insisting Carr was their guy, and Peterson looked like a lock if Cleveland passed on him.

However, FA moves have totally shaken things up. Detroit got an OT, so Joe Thomas isn't a top priority anymore, Cleveland got Jamal Lewis, so, even though they could still grab Peterson, he's not AS important, and the Texans have now all but come right out and SAID they are ditching Carr. That leaves 3 teams picking before us that need a QB but had slightly more important problems 3 weeks ago that would have swayed their draft differently, but they took care of them so now they can focus on a QB.

All that being said, mock drafts are just people's opinions. You or I could make one and probably get a similar number of picks right as the "experts" do, ally uo need is a some knowledge of the prospects and definately knowledge of team needs. I tend to stay away from making my own mocks because, try as I might, I CANNOT be bias, lol. If I want Miami to pick a certain guy (like Quinn this year for example) I always end up doing it out so Miami gets that guy. This year I made one for fun and had Miami trading up to get Quinn, lol.

He never should have "slipped" in the first place IMO.

like it was said above the big board is completely different than the mock...

calvin johnson is at the top of basically everyones big board, that doesn't mean he'll be picked number 1, or even 2 or 3... the big board is ranking who is best... when a team drafts they cant only take BPA, need and who they already have at positions are factors ni who they draft...
