Finally...someone whose finger hasn't been hitting the panic button all night! Thanks!

They played very sloppily tonight, but as you said, I think that's just a combination of scheduling and exhaustion. Tony won't let them forget about how they played, and you're right - despite how badly they played, the first teamers found a way to put the winning points on the board.

Perfectly said.

I have to say, when you think of the following, this performance starts to make a lot more sense.

1. First game on the road.
2. Dealing with a short week.
3. Coaches ran these guys ragged in camp, with two weeks of two-a-days every single day except one day off.
4. Third game in 11 days (first game Monday the 17th, second game Saturday the 22nd, third game Thursday the 27th).

It's natural for me to want to make excuses for a performance like this, even in a win, but when I think of the above it does make sense why they looked a step slow all night almost like they were slogging through mud. Well, they were doing that too since the game was mostly played in a downpour. But coaches always talk about players naturally lose their training camp legs, and they have to start going easy on them, lightening it up a lot for a few weeks before the regular season, getting their legs back. I was floored through camp at how the coaches were putting these guys through two-a-days every single day...that's just unusual to me, doesn't strike me as a smart thing to do. They avoided injuries despite all that...and it really took a while for them to lose their legs...but you could definitely see it tonight.

The truth is hardly ever applied when you expect a 42-7 game each time the team goes out. Not all games are won handily. But don't tell that to people in this society. All they want is flash and excitement.

Yes they were tired...but does that mean that they can't make throws...or catch. Both QB's looked lousy...where were the receivers? How about the game planning...just plain lousy. The Bucs hit slants all night long...whats the Dolphins excuse? What did Ginn have one catch all game?

There's a time for excuses...and then a time for reality...even tired players...play.

Tired legs and arms can explain literally every single thing you mentioned except the game planning which I didn't have a problem with.

I agree, but I'm still going to b**ch about it for the rest of the evening.

Well the Dolphins could have just as easily lost tonight...lets remember that the Bucs two top receivers weren't playing.

And if tired legs were the problem...why did the defense play well? Aren't they tired as well?

Vontae sure did'nt look tired or slow, Nathan Jones made an amazing blitz play, I think we have 4 legitimate pass rushing threats in Taylor, Porter, Wake, and Moses (Moses is making me feel less sting on the whole Rothgate). Hartline strikes me as someone who will only get better. I like how we cleaned up our penalties in the second half. Charlie Anderson is on borrowed time(Leon Lett:gonzo::refuse: SMH).

Where was Ginn?

He was running down the field open....Pennington just doesn't even look for him...

Especially on that throw to Martin....you could clearly see Ginn had his man beat...

Pennington eliminates that from his reads....he either takes the safe curl, crossing route, or checks it down...

Then Ginn came out when Henne went in...

Again...one catch from your top receiver...the only long throw was to who...Hartline.

The defense did NOT play well. Cadillac Williams was gashing open the cutback all night. The Bucs offensive line were getting right out into their blocks and pushing people out of position, and holding them fairly well. Maurice Stovall had like 76 yards receiving in one quarter of play! Byron Leftwich left all kinds of yardage on the field because some of those WRs and TEs were very open and he just sailed the ball high or wide.

The defense settled in, but the Buccaneers were also very sloppy and kept shooting themselves in the foot.

Shoot...tell me about it man....but that's Ginn's M.O....he's nonfactor 80% of the time....

I'm no Ginn lover by any stretch....but I saw Ginn had his man clearly beat....and Pennington never even looked at him...

You gotta make that throw in this league....that's 6 points....

Great throw by Pennington to Hartline....both times actually...Hartline has to learn he can't extend that arm like that though....a rook won't get that call....even as ticky tack as it was...

Hello CK...The Bucs are rated high so far in this preseason in both running the football and stopping the run, I believe they were rated 3rd or 4th in the NFL. I agree totally...the Bucs should have won...but they also played without their top two receivers..so it could have been worse.

Sparano can not be happy.
