I have a strange feeling we will still keep Porter and Jason Taylor... they will give these guys a chance in a system that is designed for them...They will design a system where crowder or whoever the middle linebacker is will be out to make plays and stop them in the back field instead of flushing out the rusher or setting edges... I repeat even though these guys have under achieved this year I dont think its because they arent good anymore, might be a few things such as injuries, scheme, bad play calling. We left all the responsibility on the secondary this year which is stupid with 2 rookies out there..But this will make our secondary better next year because they were over worked and seen it all pretty much. The secondary shouldnt have to defend so many passes, which is why the aggressive defense will help tremendously.

It's all about speed something ALL OUR LINEBACKERS LACK

Anyone watch Houston beat us
anyone watch there linebackers
Cushing and Ryans both had outstanding plays all
over the field...SOMETHING OUR LINEBACKERS ARE
NOT CAPABLE OF

All 4 linebackers need to be replaced
maybe not all this upcoming season but
3 out of 4 are old and slow and the other one is just slow

You mean speed when it comes to blitzing? thats the only thing I would see speed would be needed more. It is mostly reads..But your right outside linebackers need speed..but tis more technique and get off...

and to be honest I dont think we need much help at OLB...we have anderson, moses, porter and taylor and wake...we are very thin and talentless at the middle linebacker spots...and NT....

I believe that ILB DJ Williams from Denver is a free agent... I would be VERY interested in him... Nolan would obviously be familiar... Dansby is obviously the crown jewel of the free agent ILB's and be a magnificent addition... Imagine Dansby and then draft Rolando Mcclain... We can dream...

But the interior is where we need help BIG TIME.

The system last year was designed for Porter. He played weakside next to one of the league's best 3-4 DEs and hardly had any pass coverage responsibilities (only dropping back on 16% of passing downs). I don't see what more they could have done to get production out of him but he was largely ineffective. Don't be fooled by the sack numbers - very rarely did he get any real penetration

We need playmaking LBers, if you play the 3-4, the OLB needs to be fast, big and not a liability in coverage....JT's age and Porters health keep them from being elite in this system and Anderson and Moses are good but not elite.....if we can find an elite OLB who can play right away with a good game plan our D will be good enough to compete for a playoff spot......add a stud TE on offense, a good safety and a ILB to rotate and we will comopete for a championship.

Thats why we have Wake, why waste another pick on a OLB. i dont see us drpping both porter and taylor...and it is very hard for me to see only taylor out there or only porter...

we need wake to be in there on passing downs only.....he is a serious liability against the run and until he proves IN PRACTICE that he can handle that responsibility his role will be as a situational pass rusher. now im not saying he is bad or anything like that but it usually takes 1 to 2 years for a down lineman to lern how to play standing up. This new scheme should definetly help him though!!!!!

One or the other will be gone and Wake should fill in as the starter. They will still need to draft or find an OLB for the future because whoever stays between Porter or Taylor, is old and slow.

They don't need to draft an OLB early. The middle of the defense is where the focus has to be. ILB, NT, FS.

I agree with you that one of the 2 will probably be gone.. I dont see how we can progress as a unit with both, however I think a little differently than the staff. Common sense tells you to not play these guys after their disappointing performance in 09 but knowing the staff they prolly will keep them around to sure up the defense atleast because of their experience... you be sure that they are making the right decision with these two vets. If they do get rid of one or both we will have to fill that slot of a free agent of some sort..Jason taylor is decent at run defense...so porter might be the odd man and taylor gets one more year..We prolly would get more compensation for porter than taylor at this point. Taylor hasnt put up any meaningful stats within the last 3 years...taking a closer look at the LB group...We need to thrash Torbor,Akin, Folsom for sure. Get some picks for these guys some 6 rounders or something.

I'd be borderline shocked if Wake doesn't get a ton of playing time next season. If he plays as well as I think he will then we could def. survive with just one more MLB Upgrade. Crowder would be good as a 2nd MLB, and between JP, JT, and Anderson we SHOULD be able to get some production on the opposite side of Wake. some of you think I'm crazy but this team would be so much better and maybe even SB contenders with just 3 upgrades... at WR, MLB, and FS. Think of how many games we lost because of those positions or hell even just FS.
