come on everybody...anyone who knows this team can clearly see that drafting Okoye/Branch/Anderson would not be a value pick....Yes Keith Traylor is getting old along with the rest our defensive line and maybe one or two of those guys will go on to have productive careers...But we do have youth!!! Vickerson and Evan are both huge guys who need alittle bit of developement, but i believe will one day be contributors in our system. Not to mention Matt Roth who is going to be in the ProBowl either this year or the next...People we have youth on our DLine, making it not an imediate need!!! We need help on offense specifically OLine where we dont even have enough people to fill out our roster...anyone who watched this team last year knows offense is the problem...I will be very uneasy if we go with one of the previously mentioned Dlineman...The only defensive players I will be happy with are Landry or Willis...Both guys i believe fill our needs more than DT/NT...I mean look at our linebackers Zach and Joey Porter are both older guys with no youth backing them up..So how does our dline need to younger, more than our linebackers?? Alot of people just dont understand the Dolphins I guess, even Mel Kiper has us taking Okoye pfff...what a joke...

Here is what i believe our plan should be come draft day...Trading up is completely stupid...Its dumb to trade picks for someone when there is no certanty as to how he will play in the NFL...as tempting as it would be to trade up for Quinn, or Calvin Johnson (who i believe will have very good nfl careers)...So if Quinn, Johnson, Pat Willis, or Landry are gone by our pick, or if FO thinks they wont fit our system, other options would be Teddy Ginn and Levi Brown (whom I was high on for about two months, but the more i read and watch the more Im not sold...we should trade down...possibly multiple times, but stay in position to a player who may take a year or two, but will eventually be on the same level as Joe Thomas and his name is Joe Staley...This guy is just as athletic as Joe Thomas...He weighed 199 lbs when he entered college as a TE...Has probally the best work ethic out of any prospect in this draft...I mean you cannot question a guys work ethic when he moves from TE to DE to LT...and not to mention he has put on 70 to 90 lbs and still runs an official 4.7 and it is reported he even ran faster around a 4.66, yes i know speed means nothing for an olineman, but what this does show is that he has put on good weight, he is not fat, just an athletic guy who strives to be great...

Ok....I went back and read. Yes... I would be really upset if we went defense. We need to go offense...point blank...

Isn't this the second thread with the same topic?

Is there an echo in here? :hmmm:

I agree if Russell, Quinn,Thomas,Landry gone trade down Green Bay needs a RB plus takes away the Bills from getting the RB from Cal, plus gives us extra picks, take Leon Hall DB from Mich, with our pass rush this year can come in and make an IMPACT this year, we dont need NT/DL in 1st round or WR in a WR heavy draft only WR i like in 1 RD is Calvin and he will be gone before he sits down in the green room lol

I agree about going CB w/ the #9 pick. Though, I'd prefer Revis or Houston.

I, too, am impressed by the avatar.

I wouldnt say that trading up is completely STUPID because you cant project a surefire productive NFL player...Never say NEVER...there have been too many cases where trading up was a good call. Jerry Rice for example is one that definitely worked out, didnt it? I understand your point here, but, you cant simply label all players with not being worthy of trading up.

For every example of Jerry Rice (didnt know he was traded up for). There are ten or tweleve examples of Mike Vick or Ricky Williams....

You use the draft to build your team and restock the team. It's just as important not to 'reach' in the first round especially when you have as many needs as this team does. You can't draft for need in the top of the first round unless it just happens to be that the top rated guy on your board is available and is a need. In the second and third rounds, you might want to take a need position and stretch a bit to fill a specific need. But if they took Anderson even tho it won't fill a specific need this year, it certainly will fill a need next year or so when JT moves on/retires/shows his age or whatever...

We have to get out of the Wanny mindset of bandaiding this team and restocking it's talent thru the draft with sound choices, be that on the DL or wherever thru the draft....

Yes . . . DT is by FAR our deepest position . . . and when I say DT . . . I mean 3-4 DE or 4-3 DT. Sure we could use a big time clogger . . . but lets see what the youth we have can do . . . we can always go NT next year if things dont work out w/ guys like the Wright Bros, Vickerson, Evans and company. I definitely want to see us draft a hybrid type player 3-4 LB/4-3 DE . . . or even a pure DE who can play both DE spots (Carriker would be a staple on this defense for years).

But yes, day 1 . . . we need to focus on offense . . . Future QB, OLine, WR and if there is a steal @ TE we could take a look as well (I mean if Olsen falls to 40 . . . u gotta look).

You're overstating matters quite a bit. It works out a lot more often than you think. If Dallas hadn't traded up for Emmit Smith they may never have became the dynasty they did.

Yes, it's a crapshoot. But if you have a good personnel dept and a feeling that a player can be special, you do it.

wisfinfan is right on the money here i think we should not let a highly talented player like rice or bowe escape our clutches . our receiving corp really isnt that good hagan could be a bust and booker might be gone so gosh darn it people lets get the best players we can for instance , patrick willis would be a real assest and so would adrian peterson , ,zach miller or dewayne jarrett . truthfuly we can grab oline and stil get better wrs in here and another te would help as well. :ninja:

When you pick top 10 you find the best player that fills a need, not necessarily the greatest area of need. Just because we need offense more than defense doesn't mean we should reach for an offensive player not as high on our draft board.

You can never have enough good defensive linemen, especially in this age where teams rotate them constantly. Evans looks to have nice upside, but Traylor is 38 years old. We released Vickerson before resigning him, so I think you may be stretching it a bit on how much he'll contribute in the future. Manny Wright is a huge question mark. Rodrique Wright has potential but questions that go beyond his injured shoulder.

The worst thing you can do going into a draft is to assume too much.
