There is all this talk on this forum about how an offense (or our offense) needs a number one receiver to be effective. Look at a team like the saints. They put up 30pts on a regular basis and their receivers are not much different than the ones we have on our team. They are not standout guys the only difference is the deep threat is always a possibility as a result of their QB situation. Now I am a fan of penny and will not be one of the people that says we cant win games with him at the helm but im just saying that i dont think the WR situation is the problem with this teams offense because there are teams that consistantly score points without having start receivers.

I agree and disagree. The o-line was the biggest problem yesterday (I'm only talking YESTERDAY because we've only played 1 game) but we NEED a #1 receiver. Best is our best receiver like it or not. Ginn is a flyer and he just wants to streak down the field and catch bombs - he doesn't want to go across the middle and be a true #1. We need a big, tough #1 to take some of the pressure off of our running game.

well the saints have M.Colston. Hes a true #1 in my book. Ill take him over all of our WR any day! hes big and physical. but i do agree with the point ur making, i would have gone with the giants as an example. I was watching the game last night because i have manning as my fantasy qb, and he seemed to be doing pretty good with the wr he had, but he could have been tearing it up with Plax or a true #1.

Yes the O Line was a problem, but where were the adjustments by the coaching staff. Why let them continue to tee off on Penny. Why not a screen now and then to keep them on their heels or run right at Abraham, let Jake get some momentum and win some battles.

I put this one on the lack of offensive game plane and adjustments and turnovers.

They tried a middle screen more than once (at least once in the second half) and the o-line didn't even hold the Falcons D up long enought for that to develop. And Jake Long getting bull-rushed over on his back isn't coaching, it's lack of intensity. Long is a big, bad SOB but he just didn't play tough yesterday.

I certainly agree with you that they should have run it at Abraham. We definitely didn't establish any sort of ground game with Ronnie.

Maybe I missed them, but the only screens I saw atempted were the bubble screens to Bess and Cam. I don't remember seeing a screen atempted to Ronnie or Ricky.

Yes Jake got bull rushed, but as I stated Atlanta's D Line was teeing off on Penny, they had ZERO concern for the run. Jake got caught flat footed more than once no doubt, but you gotta get a big guy like Jake going forward not back on his heels so much.

Hopefully this game has been forgotten about, because it get's no easier this week or next for Jake.

Yeah, I think it was literally once in the second half.

You're right about that, I think that getting a running game going early does as much for the o-line (mentally AND physically) as it does for the QB. Good point, Orlando.

I think he will bounce back. We need him to.
