When the Jets play the Dolphins on Monday, it would only be human nature for members of Gang Green Nation to feel a pang of envy when they see Ryan Tannehill under center for one of their rivals.

Tannehill represents what the Jets thought they had in Geno Smith when they drafted him, a young quarterback who is fulfilling his potential. He may have one more year of NFL experience than Smith does, but he is eons ahead of him, especially in this breakout campaign of his in which he has completed 66.1% of his passes and thrown for 20 touchdowns compared to just eight interceptions. He has led the Dolphins to a 6-5 record, although tight losses to the Packers and Broncos has to have them wondering if they are even better than their record indicates.

“I feel that way,” Tannehill said this week.

But regardless of whether the Dolphins could have been better, the distinction is clear: Tannehill’s team is in the thick of the playoff hunt, Smith’s squad has been out of it for weeks.

Why did they think Geno was going to be good?

I don't know, why did posters on this very forum think, earlier this season, that Geno Smith was better than Ryan Tannehill?

Well, we'll get to see them both in action this Monday Monday! Mondayyyyy! night!

The Driskelhill Bowl: Presented by Geno's Myth! (But only if Ryan Tannehill isn't benched by then!)

I forgot about that. After all I spend most of my time on the political forum where the craziest thing you'll see is that acceptance of homosexuality has been the downfall of every major civilization and will be the downfall of ours.

That's nothing compared to Geno Smith turning into a good quarterback.

This article is a sham. Geno has swagger and Tannehill will never amount to a hill of beans because he never had a full successful college career.

By halftime he's gonna have stagger.

To be honest it would not surprise me to see Matt Simms in this game. Vick is coming up on playing time incentives and the Jets don't want to pay them. That's the chief reason Vick was benched. If they pull Smith there's a good chance it will be for Simms.

Is that for real? :sidelol:

That's absurd.

I find it hard to believe that an NFL team, especially one that is so far under the salary cap, would bench him to avoid paying him $100,000.00. I have to think that they genuinely just want to give Geno another chance.

Well they'd never come out and say it, but yeah.

These are his playing time incentives:

#Jets Vick $4M guar. Playing Time Incentives: per @spotrac
50%: of off. plays $100,000
60%: $300,000
70%: $550,000
80%: $900,000
90%: $1M

Vick has already appeared in the majority of five games as the Jets QB. Why push your luck when he's not even playing well?

The 2 more likely options to me are:

1. They want to try to continue developing Geno now that their season is over.

2. They saw the Raiders and Jags and Bucs win games, saw that Vick was playing significantly better than Geno in games that he started, and realized that they have a chance to pick in the top three in the draft.

This epitomizes the rationale behind the insane jealousy that drives "some individuals" to nitpick the mistakes of a QB who's demonstrating all the untoward potential unseen by their team(s)' QBs in 40+ years.

Those two options are in conflict with each other. But neither one conflicts with the playing time idea.

There's also "job saving mode" for the coaches. Second year player ****s the bed, go the backup in desperate effort to win games. Backup still loses... go back to young player to prep "growing pains and they're Idzik's fault" excuse.

I don't really recall people thinking Geno was better than Tannehill on here. I do recall a couple of "even Geno Smith is hitting deep balls" comments but in a more implied "and he TOTALLY sucks" type way. Anyhow, they have to play him to get a final evaluation before draft time etc.
