That process, Walsh said, took seconds......

....The Patriots then opened the regular season against the Buccaneers. Walsh said this was the first time he had seen quarterback Drew Bledsoe operate a no-huddle offense when not in a two-minute or hurry-up situation.

In the week after the game, Walsh said he asked a quarterback — again, he declined to name whom — how helpful the signals were. Walsh said the quarterback told him “probably about 75 percent of the time, Tampa Bay ran the defense we thought they were going to run — if not more.”

(Bledsoe was the Patriots’ starting quarterback in 2000. The other quarterbacks on the roster were Tom Brady, Michael Bishop and John Friesz.)

during a game only 2 headsets are given for the starter and backup QB. The 3rd QB is dressed and can only get a headset when he replaces the 1st or 2nd QB due to an emergency .The 4th QB never dresses or has headset on .He is just sitting with the other inactives in the sidelines.[you seem them in sweat pants and shirts in most games].This expection is only for the QB position so you got 45 actives and 1 Qb .the rest 7 players are total inactives. And brady as the 4th QB was their till they cut the other 2.

btw , the game buccaneers game the patriots got their lunch money taken and took a beating.But this does explain why lost as with all the game tape and coaches tape a team is suppose to know 100% of all the defensive scheme and personal grouping a opposing team runs.If they go into a game not knowing who the heck is playing what and what the formation is i am sure a beat down is asked for.

I mean if a team does not knwo if a guy in a DB,LB in nickel or with 2 covers guys deep is in cover 2 or when 4 guys are deep in cover 4 they are asking to be handed a beat down.

Oh yeah, everyone is thinking it. But you know what, he needs to prove himself this season and beyond now that teams don't have to use defensive signals. While it's different because of the Moss factor compared to their tainted SB* teams, it will be real interesting to see. All teams have to do is totally commit to taking Moss out the game and smack wes as soon as he catches the rock. No more signals means the onus will be on the former 6th rd backup.

Didn't we see your team's offense in no-huddle mode a lot? Not hurry-up but no-huddle you know, with your golden boy taking his time with that blank look on his face waiting for "instructions." Waiting for the OC to tell him where the defenders won't be like Weis did.

It was very likely John Freisz who was the QB in on it. Bishop is too stupid and Brady hadn't even started his NFL career. Belichick loved him but, that's a little far fetched IMO.

The Pats were caught at halftime of week one, against a team who knew what they were doing and thus were sending in calls with three coaches (two dummies). It was well-documented what the Chargers did in week 2 because of it and I doubt highly they were the only ones.

How about we bring up what else Walsh said in that same article. That he was pretty sure another team was doing the same thing to the Pats.

So the fact that Michael Bishop threw 9 passes that year (including one at the end of the first half in a game - which meant he had to be the #2 QB) means he was 4th? Brady moved up towards the end of the year but it was mainly Bishop and Freisz. Actually Bishop was his main backup for a while which prompted many Patriots fans to want Belichick to make him the starter. Friesz appeared in one game (Nov 5, went 11-21), Brady appeared in one game (going 1-3), and Bishop appeared in 8 games (8 of the first 10 I believe). That right there pretty much guarantees Bishop was the backup, then Freisz overtook him, then Brady overtook him, then Brady overtook Freisz. That depth chart right there is an end of season depth chart, and arguably not even an accurate one.

Feel free to think Belichick thought so much of Tom Brady, as a rookie 4th string QB in the preseason (because that's when this all first started, in the preseason game against Tampa Bay which is when Brady allegedly won his roster spot and was his 4th career NFL game action and without any regular season action to his professional credit), he chose to hand him this information. But doing so would then contradict the feeling many of you have that Belichick was "lucky" with Brady.

I'll stick by that it was probably John Freisz. You said it was probably a 3rd QB. The 3rd QB the majority of that season was Freisz, not Brady. Just because Walsh says some star offensive player agrees with him (despite the fact he isn't named) must mean it's all true! We all know how truthful and honest Walsh has been through this whole thing.

Of course he is. The team and it's sidelines was so heavily monitored. What teams did this season preparing for the team was borderline ridiculous. Like I've said, it was well publicized what Norv Turner did in Week 2. He didn't give his players the first ten plays, he made sure he left no paper trail, he changed his signs, everything. I highly doubt he was the only one that did it. I'm sure not all of them took it to that extreme but, some probably did and then more.

Just accept it, even though they did lose the Super Bowl they still won 18 games without cheating (and yes, I say 18 because they were caught at halftime of week 1, and you say for yourselves 3 coaches giving signs the Jets clearly knew what was up - no way they could've successfully cheated in that game) at all last season.

Read what I wrote, moron, it wasn't Walsh who said this--it was HBO who contacted the player and had this quote from him. Personally, I still can't believe this hasn't gotten more air time, as it strikes me as taking a large chunk out of the "it didn't really help" argument (which was pretty weak to begin with, considering the resources they spent on it for 8 years).....
