In light of the Satele trade, and the complaints by some that we lost some valuable depth, I would like to post our current offensive line roster.

LT - Long, Frye
LG - Smiley, Murphy
C - Grove, Alleman, Berger (Can play C or G)
RG - Thomas, Ndukwe
RT - Carey, Garner

Seems like we have plenty of depth to me. If they think Smiley & Thomas are going to be good to go this season, I would be surprised if we took any o-linemen in the draft before the 4th round.

(Edit: Adding their height & weight for additional info)

Jake Long: 6-7, 310
Justin Smiley: 6-3, 310
Jake Grove: 6-4, 300
Donald Thomas: 6-4, 310
Vernon Carey: 6-5, 350
Brandon Frye: 6-4, 305
Joe Berger: 6-5, 315
Shawn Murphy: 6-4, 315
Andy Alleman: 6-4, 310
Nate Garner: 6-7, 320
Ikechuku Ndukwe: 6-4, 325

That's a lot of beef. I think I see a pattern here.

we know absolutely nothing about frye, garner, or berger at this point in time. and alleman didn't exactly light the world on fire last year. ndukwe played decent though. being on the team doesn't necessarily make them good depth. i would hope if someone went down we would at least have a body to replace them.

I hear what you're saying, but most teams don't have the luxury of having all their backups being starter quality players. No matter what, if your starters go down, you are screwed.

my point was satele was a quality player. 2 year starter after 2 years in the league. would you rather have alleman or satele as a back up?

but it seems that satele did not fit our scheme. apparently to the extent that we didn't even think we could get value back for him. you would think parcells would be able to work over al freakin davis.

maybe the GM's of other teams don't value him as highly as the fantasy Gm's here on finheaven.

I think Alleman will fill in fine, and Parcells will bring in some competition through the later rounds of the draft, and a couple of UDFA guys. When the dust settles from the competition, I think we will have some quality O-Line depth. Losing Satele doesn't concern me one bit, and I think we got a pretty good deal.

yeah, if those guys fit the mold parcells wants it doesn't even make a difference. satele didn't fit the scheme therefore he is gone. i'll get over it. i just wish we would've gotten more for him. i mean, we just spent a 2nd rounder on him the year before last. and we had to lose welker to get that pick. that's probably what i'm most upset about.

i guess when all is said and done, if a guy doesn't make sense for what you are trying to do there is no point in keeping him around. i still think the raiders got a steal though.

I understand what you mean about the 2nd round pick from the Welker trade, but you can't make football decisions based on something a previous regime did. I just see it as more of an indictment against Mueller & Cameron. It's going to be a little painful sometimes during the remaking of this team in the Parcell's mold.

still not happy with the trade, but i'll get over it. i think we should have gotten more - it was the raiders, after all.

stupid cam and mueller.

Would've been nice to get over on Al, but maybe he's not making the calls now. Maybe his son is filling in for him. That would make sense as to why the Raiders were able to strike a fair deal this time.

From Armando's Blog:

So we know Grove is the starting center. Who is the backup center? There will be a competion. Ireland said Joe Berger and Andy Alleman will be the guys who will compete. "We've got some candidates," Ireland said.

we have zero depth at any of the 5 positions along the line. If you are comfortable with the garbage we have as backups.... well, I dont know what to say to you BUT I can tell you I am not confortable at all. Combine that with the fact that THomas, Grove and Smiley are coming off injuries and we are setting ourselves up for failure if we do not add at least a couple quality backups.
