I think the only two line positions that are set for next year are Jeno James at LG and Hadnot at Center. I have a feeling that Saban and Houck will look for a LT first and then probably a RT. Carey was good at RT, but he's much better suited to play inside.

If we pick up a RT prospect in the 2nd or 3rd round, someone like Whitworth out of LSU, I believe you will see Whitworth at RT and Carey at RG. If we pick up a LT, or if Alabi unexpectedly beats out McIntosh, I think you will see the new LT alongside James, Carey will slide to Guard, and McIntosh will slide to RT where he is more suited. I am always hopeful for a LT prospect, but it's probably a safer bet that we will be able to find a new RT first.

Dolphins Offensive Line 2006

LT- Anthony Alabi
LG- Jeno James
C- Rex Hadnot
RG- Steve Hutchinson
RT-Vernon Carey

I think Carey will stay at a T position. He was neck and neck with with DMac but Stockar couldnt peform so Carey was moved to RT.

Hadnot at C is a good call
Alabi-Wonderful surprise if he is ready to start, if he is, I wouldnt be surprised to see him start at RT and move Carey to LT

The guards, i dont know about...something about Jeno there that i dont know about, i wont speculate cause i cant put my finger on it yet.

I agree the Carey's more suited to play guard, but I think with this year's draft class, a long-term answer at LT could be had, that is if we're willing to use a 1st round pick on one.

Very good post and insight. IMO:

LT: Draft pick or FA
LG: Jeno James
C: Rex Hadnot
RG: Vernon Carey
RT: FA or Draft pick

Tell you the truth I'd like to see our whole O-line upgraded.
Not one of miami's O-lineman stood out this year. We need some O-lineman that can dominate there opponent, not just get by. In my opinion this is the year to do it. There's some good free agents and the draft is very deep in O-lineman this year.
If we do it this year our line will be set for years to come.

I remember when we drafted Webb and Sims, they were mainstays for years.

I see something like this...

LT- Anthony Alabi
LG- Jeno James
C- Rex Hadnot
RG- Vernon Carey
RT- Andrew Whitworth

I can also see something like this if they want more cap space and Nick Saban and Hudson Houck like Wade Smith as much as I have read...

LT- Anthony Alabi
LG- Vernon Carey
C- Wade Smith
RG- Rex Hadnot
RT- Andrew Whitworth

I think Miami might make a big overhaul of the O-line, if the players are there. We've got cap space, and there are alot of talented players out there who fit the mold of what Miami wants to do. It's a deep draft for offensive linemen, especially bigger, stronger drive blocking types, and there are some nice free agents.

Miami has an O-line coach who has done nothing but send O-linemen to the Pro Bowl. He whipped what was regarded as a unit full of turds and losers into a high quality pass protection and at least an average run blocking unit. Now give him some elite prospects. Let him take someone like Steve Hutchinson and turn him into a HOF caliber player, or let him scout and pick out a nice first day prospect.

Hudson Houck can build us a line as good as any in the league. That's as good as thing as any to build an offense around.

I wouldnt say that

Carey is a beast and Hadnot is no small frye....

Alabi needs some weight still, but he is pretty tall

Totally agree....Yeah this is the year to do it. When Saban said he wants to improve the O-line I don't think he just meant get one new guy and move the others around.

That seems to be the style in Miami. Players bulk up to 320+. Both Anthony Alabi and Wade Smith were referred to as being "Red shirted" this season, and both of them were apparently asked to bulk up.

Why would we move Hutchinson to RG? He seems to be more mobile than James and seems to be a guy that would fit perfectly at LG.

James has the bulk and the tenacity to excel at RG.

JMO.

I know we can use depth at OL. And if that leads to bringing in better players at a given position or two over who our starters were last year, including if Alabi and Smith become starters this coming season that is fine.

I think Coach Houck did a bang up job, and with depth could do the same. My point is with the players we have now, even if no FA is picked up, just someone from the draft, we could have a very, very serviceable OL play (less penalities) without much overhaul.

I still am not sure if we need Tackle or Guard depth...probably both...but it sounds like we have two nice Centers with Hadnot and Smith.

LT- Anthony Alabi
LG- Jeno James
C- Rex Hadnot or Wade Smith
RG- ????
RT-Vernon Carey

I question Carey's ability to move people inside, so far. IMO, injury wasn't the only reason he struggled at RG in college and played better at RT overall. His forte seems to be pass pro. I think he went from not good to adequate this season in the run game, but still needs work. Need more push on that right side, which is why they kept trying to get McDougle in there even tho he kept stinkin it up.
