Carey looking at the stats had a great first year i say that because he just got his chance to start this year he gave up only three sacks and had 3 penalties all year thats real good.

Mcintosh had a solid year only let up 4 sacks compared to his 9 last year and had 5 penalties compared to 10 last yr.

Mckinney gave up 0 sacks all year but he doesnt get the push we need in the running game either he did commit alot of penalties which was 7 but 5 of those were holding calls so they were costly.

Rex Hadnot only gave up 1.5 but he did have 9 penalties which were all false start which is alot but if we move him to center that problem is fixed and we bring in a new guy maybe hutch form seatle.

Jeno James had a decent year too if you go by the stats he gave up only 2.5 sacks all season had 2 false start penalties and 2 holding penalties which r kinda costly but all in all he had a goo

Pro Bowler Stats

Willie Roaf gave up 4 sacks and had 5 penalties 3 were holding in only 10 games.

Johnathon Ogden gave up a whopping 9.25 sacks and had 7 penalties 1 was holding

Tarik Glenn 3.25 sacks 10 penalties 2 were holdin

Walter Jones 2.5 sacks and 3 penalties 1 was holding

Gotta start with this guard Steve Hutchinson is a beast with 16 games 0 penalties and 1.25 sacks

Alan Faneca 4.25 sacks 2 penalties 1 holding

Start with this center Lecharles Bentley 2.75 sacks 3 penalties 2 were holding calls

Jeff Saturday 1 sack 3 penalties 2 holding calls

All in all this unit is playing well i think we should add hutch and this same unit is staright with alabi maybe coming in dor D-mac who we should keep around if he takes a pay cut but these guys are playing well and HOuck has done a good job. Just wanted to put this out their so people could see.

Unfortunately, penalties and sacks allowed doesn't necessarily tell you how good or bad a blocker the player is.

Marino had an offensive line that set a record for not allowing a sack, but they couldn't run block if their lives depended on it.

(And before someone brings this up, yeah I know, Dan had a quick release, blah blah blah. But to go that many games without giving up a sack, whether by missing a blocking assignment or by a blitz, is still an exceptional achievement).

:cooldude: NICE POST Dolfan4life34... I have to agree with you on everything... watching those big guys up front play this year was like heaven compared to last year's nightmare... I know a majority of the line was the same, but H. Houck has done a hell of a job...with the addition of Hutch or Bentley I think we could be damn near superior, esp. if at least three of this years starters start for us next year... I say give Anthony Alabi more attention...this guy could well be our future LT for years... Go fins!:dolphins:

I honestly think there's gonna be atleast 2 new starters on the O-line next year. Saban said at the end of the season press conference that he was gonna inprove the O-line.

GOOD POST! Our line did come on strong, mostly toward the end of the season. But we need, or they need, better pass blocking and run blocking. With our backs, we should be around 4 or 5 yards a carry, and our QB should have time to find his WRs. I like our line right now, if they can keep building the way they did toward the end there, but I still think we should look to FA and/or the draft and upgrade some, and have good back ups. you never know. It will be interesting to see what Saban does

Exactly.

Just becuase two guys are very similar along the lines of what they do in a negative sense (sacks, penalties, etc.) doesn't mean one isn't a whole lot better than the other in terms of what they do positively (pancake blocks, drive blocking, mean streak, etc.).

For example, I think the DTs around the league would probably tell us that Alan Faneca and Will Shields are head and shoulders above Jeno James and Rex Hadnot in terms of what they do positively.

I live in up here in Seattleville, USA and believe me it would be outstanding if we could get Hutchinson, but Seattle is NOT, I REPEAT is NOT going to let Hutch go. Im getting the feeling that the order of operations for them is
Hutch #1
Alexander#2
Paul Allen wants both back too.
Lets stop the posts saying we should do something that we may not even have the opportunity to do.

haha exactly! if that was the case then we'd have probwolers on our line dude. it coems down to holes, gaps, running lanes, time allowed cuz it can all be the QB throwing it away makin the Line look good.

You've got it right on the money phingeneral I couldn't agree with you more. If you really want to breakdown our offense, take a look at how many times we came out in Shotgun on 1st down? Why do you think we did that, could it be, because our boys up front can't give the QB enough time? Possibly? Or maybe it's Linehan's style, not sure, but the 2nd game against Buffalo Gus was getting killed all day, and then he got taken out , not sure why Buffalo stopped blitzing when Sage came in the game, but it was obvious that we still have some protection issues.

I would like to see the o-line become the strenght of this team.

I to would like to see the O-line become the strength of the team. I know Saban is gonna do all he can to make that possible. Man just think what Ronnie and Ricky could do then. 2 powerful backs just cranking out yards.

the key to a good line is a group that can stay together for several years...KC, Green Bay, and Seattle are examples of this over the last few years...

I like our young core and with the injection of a veteran like charles or hutchison, they could be a lot to handle next year...
