O-Line

The bears drafted 2 OL high which panned out last year. You can also look at the 49ers they draft OL that pan out as rookies. Its all about coachingb and how they fit in the system in place

James pass protection makes him a plug and play will he struggle? Maybe what rookie doesn't but he is plug and plug its been echoed by hoops by ck. By any draft guru you wanna cite

I get what you're saying and, for better or worse, James will be plugged in. However, let's take a look at a few OT's who were plugged in last year.

Lane Jophnson, who everyone loved gave up 10 sacks, 8 hits, and 39 hurries. Fisher, who everyone loved, gave up 7-5-35 but missed 2 games. Pugh, who played well as a #19 pick, had 5-4-43. And if ya wanna include Jordan Mill, from Da Bears, he was 3-13-62, and was ranked #76 of 76 OT's liste in pass blocking.

Overall, they were no better than Clabo, who many hate. Obviously, I would take any of the three, not Mills, over Clabo for the long run but, not for their first year's, as they take a year to develop. James is not as talented as the top two, and I'm not sure on Pugh.

He may surprise or, have a Martin type year. We shall see.

Didn't lane Johnson miss the whole season with injury

.....ad nauseam

Is there any topic which has not been discussed ad nauseam? IF so, plese start a thread. If not, accept what it is for what it is or, take a vacation from the forum. There is no new news out there, and there will not be for a while.

Donald Thomas is with the Colts.

Thanks. I mistyped Dallas Thomas on my phone and the silly autocorrect changed it to Donald Thomas. Sorry if it caused any confusion.

Well said.

In the NFL, it has been proven over and over again that rookies on the OL mostly take a year to get stronger, and adapt to the competition level. With the spread offense being prevalent, most do not come in with the ability to run block, as they have not done it that much. I do not believe you can count on any OL coming in and playing well their first year, no matter where they were picked. Top 10 picks have proven that.

Same can be said for any rookie at any position. The odds of a rooking coming in, starting from day one and playing at a probowl level are slim. The question is... will he be better than anyone we have currently on the roster within a few games? I say YESSIR

I'm generally an optimist when it comes to the Dolphins and sometimes I get called a homer for it. But the level of optimism for these two draftee OL is ridiculously over the top. I honestly cannot fathom it.

Firstly, James isn't bad, but he also isn't this plug nd play pro bowler so many seem to think he is. The kid has sloppy footwork, sloppy positioning, and poor work ethic. If there was an anti-Cam Wake type on our team, it would be up for grabs between Dallas Thomas and JuWan James. Let's face it, James needs to tighten up and get with the program or he could end up being almost as bad of a player as Jonathan Martin was as our RT.

James lacks power and is definitely not a good run blocker. Lamar Miller is relieved we didn't draft a RB, but I assure you he is not excited about once again having no run lanes outside right.

James was simply bigger and longer than everyone he faced in college. He is hard to get around just like McKinnie was ... but James is no great pass pro guy ... He is simply decent at it with a high ceiling mostly because of his arm length.

Don't expect greatness right away, because that's not who this guy is right now.

Turner actually looks like he has the potential to be a player to me, but this kid is raw. Clearly he is an OG to me. He has heavy hands, good ability to locate downfield, and wonderful tools. But, he was always bigger and quicker than the guy across from him in college and when he faces mediocre NFL players with better tools, he will need to develop better technique.

Guys like Nick Fairley, Dominique Easley, Marcel Dareus and Muhammad Wilkerson will wreck this kid until his technique gets up to par. And in the NFL, the guys who don't have as good tools will exploit even the smallest flaws in technique, so he's going to be in for a rocky start even when protected between two good veterans at LG.

If he were to get snaps at OT this year it would be disastrous. Let's let this kid develop as an OG first, because honestly, he has a lot to learn yet.

We need to be dominant on 1st and 2nd downs. Because, neither Albert nor James is a particularly good run blocker and both are poor in short yardage pile moving. Turner has some sand in his pants, but only Shelley is good at it.

I have a lot of faith in Benton ... but we need to avoid getting carried away with our expectations of these two rookies.

[Edited to fix spelling of Dallas Thomas' name and avoid confusion]

Where did you get he has poor work ethic? The man started EVERY GAME in highchool and College. You don't do that with poor work ethic. Sloppy footwork? You're the only person i've heard say that. Please post your sources.
