Patiently waiting for fins to explode
With so many ? marks about JT staying or going, we will assume he stays and plays with us. Also that we will use the 3-4 defense most of the time.
Let us begin with the DT's and DE's. I think the acquisition of Ferguson and Starks is an upgrade. I believe we also signed K. Traylor again which was critical noticing how weak our run D was last year. So far the middle of the line looks beefed up and overall improved from last years.
Moving backwards we got JT, Crowder, Porter, and Ayodele / Torbor or one of our new DE's we drafted. Maybe moving Roth or rotating him with the other LB's will produce nice numbers from this linebacker unit. JT will be a huge upgrade IMO. More Int's / Sacks from him. Porter appears to have a hold of the system now and will produce this year. Wild man Crowder needs to be around the ball more and get sacks! The man can't find his way to the QB even if you gave him a map!
I do not see this being one of our weak links on defense this year.
Moving to the DB's and CB's, we got a reliable player in Allen (Will). He is clearly our best CB. Opposite to him is shaky with J. Allen or somebody else replacing him. I am not sure if Lehan is still signed. J. Allen however played very well in the last games making Int's. The re-introduction of Y. Bell will benefit the intensity of the backfield. The man makes plays and hypes up the team. I am not sure if J. Allen will play safety or CB but he has to produce.
The DB's as of now look so so. We will be as bad as last year or in a scale form 1-5 we get a 3 or so. Must wait for pre-season to make the final call.
Finally I think our defense will go from last to bottom half, I say we will end with the #15 defense overall or lower. I am feeling a little biased to go lower but you can't argue with results. There are too many ? marks out there. I will post again about this after pre-season. Thoughts?
