Poor Cowboys just keep getting raided by us.

never really heard of the guy...

Austin, 24, is typical of the type of receiver Ireland and Bill Parcells covet. He's 6-3, 216 pounds, and he's proven he can stretch the field a little bit. In 2008 he caught 13 passes for 278 yards, which translates to a 21.4 yards per catch average. He had three touchdown receptions.

Obvious interest is right. But I would expect the Cowboys to exercise the 2nd round tender on him.

The idea I had been floating was trading John Beck for him.

that reminds me that we still have Todd Lowber

he could be someone to watch in camp

Not sure they gain enough in that scenario. You would think they might envision Austin as To's possible replacement. I do agree that if the Cowboys trade for Beck it will most likely be a player though.

You would have to think Roy Williams is already penned for TO's replacement. They also have Patrick Crayton inked long term, and they had a lot of success with Crayton and Owens working as the pair in 2007. Stanback is coming on a bit, too.

Miles Auston was something like #6 or #7 down the list of their pass catchers.

Still it costs them very little to keep as thier 4th guy right now. Im thinking they would want a more useful player in return. At this point its hard to envision that the Cowboys or any other team see Beck as a solid backup option for this season. Maybe longterm but that would be probably more foolish than trusting backup to a 40 something qb.

Miles austin was 5th or 6th in the depth chart .... hes definetly expendable in dallas. He wouldnt be a savior for us but a guy who can come in compete and see if he can earn a spot. He definetly has potential.

That's the point, isn't it? If they give him the lowest RFA tender, yeah it does not cost them much. But it also costs us nothing to swipe him from them. If they give him the 2nd round RFA tender, I think it would cost them something like $2 million in 2009 to keep him. That's expensive for the 8th most productive pass catcher on the team...no?

Well we paid our 30th most productive defensive player 3.5 million so its all relative lol.

They cannot place a tender on him since he was undrafted. Read the article before you post.
