Lazor was asked this morning during his press conference whether he preferred to be on the sidelines or in the booth when calling the game and he had a pretty interesting answer as both he said had positives. He said that being in the booth gives him a much better feel for the game because he gets a much better look at what the defense is trying to do. He said being on the sidelines he has to wait for players to come of the field to get some of the information he would normally get from in the booth. He did also say that being on the sidelines, which allows him to speak to the players face to face, allows him to get much better information from them as to what they are seeing as what specific techniques the defense using. He also said that communicating directly with a player or a group of players is much easier when you can just talk to them vs speaking to them on the phone.
This got me to thinking. Could it be one of the reasons the Fins are so good at second half adjustments is because the staff is finally able to look at opposing teams from a birds eye view. If so, wouldn't it be more beneficial for them to be up in the box. Yes, I know it is important for coordinators to be able to speak to the players, but shouldn't it be more important for them to see what scheme the opposition is using to try to exploit/attack it?
I guess it comes down to preference but why choose communication over seeing the actual game plan/flow play out with your own eyes?
