I was listening to Bill Polian on Sirius NFL Radio this evening and he was talking about the Colts - a subject in which he takes a special interest. In the course of the discussion he mentioned that Andrew Luck is losing his QB Coach, Clyde Christensen to the Dolphins. He explained that Clyde has been Luck's QB Coach since he was drafted and had an extremely strong working relationship with him. Bill made the comment that he knows that Luck was not happy that Clyde left (BTW - Brian Schottenheimer is his new QB Coach). He also commented that Christensen was a good pickup by the Dolphins as Offensive Coordinator.
I hadn't really thought much about Christensen, because Gase will be calling the plays and he will be directly involved in Tannehill's development. However, the fact that Christensen has spent so much time directly developing Andrew Luck, struck me as a positive. Christensen was part of the Colts organization for 14 years in various coaching roles (spending time with Peyton Manning and more recently Luck). Polian probably knows him extremely well.

I think it was a good hire because we needed some experience on the coaching staff, just like Washburn will be good for the defense etc..

I would imagine Ryan and Andrew have talked and Ryan has an idea of what he's getting in our new OC.

Watching Bspn @ lunch, they were gushing over the Colts OTA's.

All I could think was Andrew L is in for a long damn yr making sure his OL's shoelaces are tied. Oh, wait? :D

He is my second fav coach hire after joseph.

i think he will make a big difference with the offense. Lets hope the boy wonder doesnt **** it up.

No excuse for RT, Gase helped Manning and Cutler and CC helped Luck,

I'm not sure if it was 100% by design, but we have built a team with a young aggressive and innovative HC/OC and DC, backed up on both sides of the ball by two grey beards who are known as being gurus of the schemes we are planning to run, below which are some continuity Dolphins coaches with knowledge of the players, the FO and the culture in Miami. It certainly looks intentional and overall has a better shape to it than a lot of previous coaching teams.

But I'm not getting excited. I'm just too sick of optimism, turning to pragmatism, turning to realism, turning to pessimism, turning to ****.

One thing struck me though. With Gase and Joseph very vocal early on about how they want to strategise to players' strengths and not shoehorn players into scheme, I'd have expected less talk about scheme in the offseason. On the contrary though, we have two scheme-guru hires, Joseph waxing lyrical about press-man and the wide-9, talking about how he wanted corners that physically fit the scheme and how his d-line will be shaped to attack the QB. We have Christensen talking about scheme and how Gase is always in his ear about scheme variations etc.. Not putting it out there as a negative, because I know there are plenty of ways to be very innovative within and around a base scheme on both sides of the ball. But I'm not sure our gameplans will be as player-centered as maybe we all assumed they would be, a la Saints under Payton or Panthers under Rivera. Looks like there'll be a pretty identifiable Dolphins style.

I just hope Clyde can teach tannehill how to feel and see pressure before it's too late, and become a More innovative QB in the pocket. Your not a franchise qb until you can do that IMO.

Unfortunately, I think that this maybe something innate. Either the player has the capacity to feel the pressure or he doesn't - (hope I'm wrong). However, if the O-line can do a better job in protection, Ryan will get a bit more time to find his player and his figures will improve.

We'll see..

Like I said when he was hired. If he had 2 run of the mill QB's and made them stars I would be more impressed.

However, these were 2 QB's that had IT before the coach helped them. Manning and Luck...

He might bring just a little more to the table than say, a graduate assistant from Texas A&M. Clyde>Zac

Christensen is an excellent game planner. He was responsible for handling offensive game plans while in Indianapolis during the Peyton and Luck years. With all this talk about "playing to players strengths", Christensen's MO fits the bill of this coaching staff to a tee.

Well, one of the IT boys (Luck) has to this point statistically not been much better then Tannehill, and the other IT boy (Manning) was on the downside of his career, coming back from a major injury, so for these coaches, the clay they have to mold in Miami might be easier and better for them at QB....Not for anything, but is it a coincidence even though they won a SB, this year without Gase, Manning did not have as good a year.
