I can't help but notice that almost every time we throw an incompletion on 1st down, the next play is about 95% of the time a conventional type running plat that gains 2 yards and puts us in a 3rd and long. I even find myself saying, "Oh no, here comes a short run." Then I'm thinking that if I know what the play is, and I'm just a guy sitting here eating chicken wings, surely the defense knows what the play is based on the film that shows we have done this for what feels like forever. I see playoff type teams in this same situation (2nd and 10) and they sometimes run it there, but mostly try another throw to prevent 3rd and long. I'm not saying to NEVER run it there, but I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this? 3rd and 7 or 8 is not an easy thing to convert. Maybe even some misdirection type runs or something would help. Just not the running back taking a simple hand
off and plunging into the middle of the line. This is the play way too much of the time.
