Ochocinco vs Marshall stat comparison

In my best Cuban accent, “BM, I never did like that piece of “chit"".

Come to think of it, that's exactly what a BM is.

You know what....you're going to be just as disappointed in Chad as you were in BM...

Neither one should have been brought here.

In the case of BM I agree. In 85's case we have nothing to lose. We aren't paying him a big contract and he might not even make the team. But if he DOES make the teamn, that tells us Philbin thinks there's still gas in the tank, enough to justify keeping an aging player out of his prime. Can 85 catch? Without a doubt. And catching the ball is primarily what Philbin needs from his wide receivers, as I understand the WCO. Again, whatever happens with 85, its not like there's anything at all to lose by giving him one more shot.

If Ocho was actually in a system that worked for him last year then his numbers would actually be better than Marshall's in everything but yards!! That makes me pretty happy

Stats don't lie, 85 was better than Marshall in their primes.

simple as that. Your statement is sorta silly

First of all what you have highlighted there is not even what I said. Not even sure how you did that...whatever.......it is pointless to compare them while they are in their primes because only one of them is in their prime now, and it aint 85. As of right now Marshall is WAY better than Chad. It's not even debatable man. Chad is about done....Marshall is a pro bowler. End of story

If i'm a wide receiver and i have to dream of the best case situation for me it would probably look like this.....

Hall of Fame Superbowl Winning Quarterback still seemingly in his prime........Check.
Pass Happy Offense that chucks the ball around all game.... check
Big Targets down the middle of the field that demand double coverage and forces the defense to play them honest.... gronk and hernandez .... check
Best Slot receiver in football to take even more attention away....... check
single coverage all day long..... check

Yeah, it couldn't have been that Chad was the problem.... must have been the system. the system that routinely makes stars scrubs, or is it the other way around?

I compared the stats in their prime and then I compared the stats over the BM's career. One comparison show 85 better, the other shows BM better in his prime compared to end for 85.
The thing is there isn't much of a difference in either comparison. So I don't see how it so far fatched to think 85 might be successful.

To me successful for receiver is scoring TD's which BM didn't do for the Fins.

I just don't get the love affair some have with BM. I was excited when we aquired him from Denver. But after his arrival I was quickly dissapointed.
Gone were the 2 TD days like he had to beat the Patriots as a Bronco. Instead we get a selfish player who is worried about stats instead of winning.

In fact in his whole tenure as a Dolphin you could say that he contributed to 1 win with his TD catch ability. It was a 10-6 win against the Jets late in his 1st year.
He had 2 catches for 16 yards that day but atleast effected the scoreboard. That was the day Sanchez was bloddy horrible and the 1 TD ended up being enough.
Of the other measily 8 TD catches over 2 years none were game winners. Most were garbage td's when we were behind and 2 were when we were way ahead anyway and didn't need them.
So even though he put up yards he never really affected the outcome of the games imo. Garbage TD's and garbage yards.

Now the question is can 85 replace him and his production. While I don't think 85 can match the yardage and catch totals I have confidence that he can beat the 4.5 TD's per year average that Marshall had as a Dolphin. And 85 can do it with less balls thrown his way. Which should leave more chances for our other receivers.

I did a stat comparison of 85 vs BM for their 1st 6 years in the league and 85 was better than BM in his prime.

Ochocinco

466 receptions for 6925 yards 14.9 average with 41 TD's and 4 Pro Bowl Appearances.

Brandon Marshall

494 receptions for 6247 yards 12.7 average with 34 TD's and 3 Pro Bowl Appearances.

OK. we aren't getting 85 in his prime and I realize that. So lets do a comparision of BM career numbers vs 85 over the same period 2006-2011 when 85 was starting to decline.

Brandon Marshall

494 receptions for 6247 yards 12.7 average with 34 TD's and 3 Pro Bowl Appearances.

Ochocinco

387 recpetions for 5503 yards 14.2 average with 33 TD's and 3 Pro Bowl Appearances.

Not alot of difference there. So a washed up 85 can still score as much as BM. When 85 first arrived I was skeptical that he could improve our roster.
But after hearing how is doing I have faith that he can alteast replace the minimal amount of TD's that BM provided while he was here.

Look buddy, it's okay to dislike things your team does. You don't have to come up with stupid stats amd arguments that have more holes than swiss cheese to prove how big of a fan you are. When Marshal was here, he was the only WR worth throwing at. When Johnson was in CIN they had numerous options, an all pro level quarterback etc. Now Johnson is another year older, another year removed from being anything in the NFL and Marshall is entering his prime. You honestly think Chad Johnsons presence on the field is gonna replace the production you got from marshall than you are a complete delusional homer. You can hate marshall for his off field stuff. You can hate him for throwing crappy quarterbacks and coaches under the bus, I don't because all of those players are, will be or should be gone soon. Trying to deny his on field talent is just stupid homer talk.

lol yeah! it's the pats fault chad johnson didn't do **** last year! lol That system makes pro bowlers out of wes welker, branch etc...a HOF qb, a HOF coach and a nasty pass blocking line coupled with huge TE's that command the defenses attention....but now chad johnson comes here and he's gonna tear it up with matt moore (scrub) or david garrad (slightly less scrubby but old as dirt), no other WRs worth a **** and no proven WR threat at TE....lol what a joke.

Wow such talent. 9 TD's in 2 seasons of being the prime target. There are 37 other recievers in the league that scored more TD's in that span with less targets.

And yes 85 will score 4 to 5 TD's and replace that production. The yards will get spread out amounst all the recievers. I could care less about BM garbage yards.

I say screw the stats. If Ocho can catch the ball when it counts, he will already be better than Marshall in my book. Marshall had some good games with us, but he also had a major issue with making clutch plays.

I don't really care about all this #1 #2 WR crap. I want our offense to focus on getting the ball to the open guy no matter who it is. Set up mis matches and go after them. No need to zero in on Ochocinco when we need a play. IMHO are top 3 WR's and maybe a TE having similar catch and TD numbers would be best.

Hopefully 85 will come back to play with determination knowing his career is towards the end.

its gonna be awesome when marshall goes for 1200 yards and 8-10 tds this season on a playoff team while chad johnson gets maybe top end 500 yards and 5 TDs. Then what will all you homers say? There isn't a team in the NFL that wouldn't like to have marshalls talent on their offense.
