odd man out at rb

I really hate not having a home run threat when returning punts, but didn't Bess have one of the highest return averages in the NFL in punts last year?
i think he had the highest avg last year.

i understand ppl werent impressed with dt, but when he wasnt injured (which was only like one or two games) he had some decent games. he struggled through camp and the season with a bad hammy, so im giving him this year to show us something

I see us keeping Bush, Miller, and Thomas...Slaton was good, but didn't do much of anything for us last year.

What is the problem that people here have with not understanding that Thomas, Clay and Gates all had injuries from training camp or before? If you are a fan of the team why don't you keep up with this news?

There are reasons that Slaton was a FA and that he has not had many carries, he simply is not that good. Why would anyone think he is? Because he had a good season 3 years ago?

We have a punt returner and possible kick off return guy in Thigpen. Wake up, read a little and cover the team you are supposed to be a fan of.

Come on................

Why would we have a guy named Thigpen doing KO returns? We used to have a guy with that last name and he didnt pan out. =) We have Reggie Bush and Lamar Miller. Why is RB not returning kicks? WHY?

I didnt think he showed too much even before his hamstring injury but I guess it isnt fair to not see what he actually has. Im just not putting out too much hope that he will pan out. Id rather have Slaton at PR. Im so sick of seeing Bess returning punts!

Seriously. Why do they still have him returning punts...

I can't believe so many of you are so down on Thomas...the kid runs hard and pushes piles...perfect complement to Bush/ Miller...I think we cut Messam and Slaton but it's def. either one of them if we keep 4

with a talented backfield, ive been predicting that slaton will be the odd man out this year after we drafted miller, and the fact that even with messam playing fb he is a rb as well. and its pretty clear to me that this will probly be the case after reading this:

we will have to speed backs in bush and miller, and two bruisers in dt and messam. i like the way it looks esp knowing that slaton wont count against the cap

I might just be over-thinking it but why are so many of sure that we have such a talented backfield? Bush, Thomas, Miller, [whoever]

When we had Ricky and Ronnie, it was a group you'd look at and say - wow. But that? I sure hope we have good rushing yards out of Bush again.

I'm not too high on Miller. I usually get a good idea of how well players are going to pan out just by their first impression on me. ha but seriously. One guy that I was really impressed with was B.J Cunningham. He seams like a really good person and he has "It". Trust me on this, the kid will be good. Also my first impression of Tannehill is that he is not as talented as people make him out to be,,, but he too has "It" and will develop into a greaaaaat NFL QB.

I have a feeling Bush might not be wearing a dolphins jersey come week one of the regular season. Just a hunch but Ireland understands a few things that the average fan doesn't take into consideration.

1. If I am not mistaken Bush is going to be a FA at the end of next year, and there is zero chance we are going to shell out big bucks to resign him. The only way we get value for him is trading him before the season starts while he is coming off his best year as a pro.

2. Running backs rarely have two good back to back seasons like Reggie had last year. Combine that with the fact that Marshall is no longer with the team and now you will see more and more teams crowding the box. Running lanes are going to be harder to find. I really don't see him putting up 5 ypc or rushing for any where close to 1000 yards.

3. The dolphins have a solid line of replacements. If Miller doesn't look totally lost during preseason and Slaton stays healthy Bush in not a necessity.

4. Most importantly Ireland understands this is not our SB year. We are still rebuilding and need more parts. Reggie will not be here when we get it all together but if we can trade him for value, the pick or player we trade him for might be.

The way I see it is Ireland will be searching for a few teams that have some good depth at WR, and if one of those teams lose a RB during the preseason he will try and make a trade. If not then any team willing to give up a 3rd round pick or maybe even a 4th will get Reggie. Just a hunch, but I think it is the way Ireland sees football. JMO

Not a starting running back. Miller would be fine but no to Bush. He gets injured enough anyways.

i remember a few years back Cam put Ronnie Brown who was our starting RB back there and it caused an up roar.
Miller needs to get his shots and he will break a couple. In my opinion he will be much better than Gates was. Punts are a differant matter. Good hands are a must and i'm ok with Bess. No long ones but no fumbles either.

Interesting take. Bush's value is at his highest having just had his best season. I thought he was great last year and i would not trade him but I'm not Ireland so you may be right.

The logic makes sense. But I'd be sad if we traded Bush :(
