I see a lot of polarized talk about Tua. Let's put a number on a clear metric. What do you think the percent chance is of Tua having more than 1 top-10 QBR season in his career? FWIW this year he finished 18th.

To me this is a fair line to say whether he is a franchise qb and worthy of building around.

I can’t predict who he will be surrounded with in the future. If he stays in the circus he probably won’t make it to Broadway

There is certainly lots that can go into it. But I think a franchise qb will usually rise eventually...e.g., Tannehill.

His QB rating will always be slightly overinflated due to the number of short completions he has, so if he can keep his int% lower its almost guaranteed even if it doesn't reflect his play.

QBR is an entirely other animal than Rating which you are speaking of, Rating, which puts emphasis on YPA... If you're going to rely on short passes entirely, you better damn sure keep complete them at an elite level if you want to keep the rating up...

I'm more worried about finding a decent coach that can help him improve his Qaurter back ranking.

They improved it quite a bit a year or so ago. It used to be brown toilet paper…few shades lighter now.
Yup they got rid of the stupid clutch factor which was beyond stupid and added way to much noise to the stat... Its much better now but still requires alot of sample size to be reliable.

Didn't realize he meant the ESPN version. I'm not very knowledgeable about how their version works.

Ftr I didn't mean it as a knock on Tua regardless. A lot of QB have ways they can make their QB rating look better than they played. That is just his, and it's safer than most so if he doesn't throw picks his rating should always be pretty good. When I say that I'm assuming he can maintain the 70% range which is elite level on short passes.

QBR is a meaningless stat. Passer rating is a much better stat that has been used by the NFL for 50 years.

Odds that Tua ever has a Top 10 passer rating? Well, he was 15th this year at 23 with the worst OL in the league. So if he remains a starter, I’d say very high.

People confuse QBR and Rating all the time... even in the mainstream media.
