Odrick and Oliver Vernon picks are crutial to the Dolphins success

In order to be great defensively, we need better production at safety position. Who is our best bet at safety this year. Sorry, if this was already asked....

In a 4-3 with Odrick and Wake on the outside, does Odrick play the strong side all the time, or will Wake stay on the left all the time?

"Langford is a bust."

After all of these years, I'm really not surprised by anything I read on FinHeaven anymore.

I think Vernon will be on during obvious passing downs, and Odrick will be on during obvious running downs

Alot has been put on the Tannehill draft pick but if that pair of DE's flop for Ireland the way Langford and Merling flopped for Parcells, than you got to think the Phins wont be good this year. I'm guess they'll be starting Right and Left DE's in the 4-3 and they will be the anchors of keeping the run contained as well as putting pressure on Brady and Sanchez. Tony McDaniel will sub in but if Odrick and Oliver prove to be as stout as Starks and Solia than we'll have pretty tough front 4.

why do you say that like Parcells did ANY good for this team?

Langford was a good solid pick and Merling IMO was a good rotational player.

Langford did not flop. Langford was a great pick and earned his contract with the Rams. Miami had to decide between Langford and Soliai in my opinion, made the right choice.

Yep, you are correct.......on all points :-)

Odrick will be a DE in the same mold as Kevin Carter. He's got the speed and the strength. Vernon can play inside or outside also. I expect some good numbers from wake and Odrick this year.

3-4 defensive ends never get enough recognition. Just look at San Francisco's Justin Smith, who is arguably their best defensive player, even above Patrick Willis. Losing Kendall Langford sucks but there was a lot of depth with Jared Odrick hopefully stepping up with his opportunity to shine.

Philbin already said they're looking at playing Odrick both inside and out, my guess is LDE on 1st and 2nd down, DT on 3rd or nickel.

It has been stated many times how Wake has an almost superhuman ability to "bend" when rushing from the left attacking the right tackle. Vernon will probably play RE on nickel and dime situations with Odrick moving inside with Starks. Should be formidable if Vernon can provide any type of rush.

Sheiff.

I can see why you don't post much. Just uneducated responses and opinions.

Ditto Phinatic, you should post a lot less.

Langford is, as CKP noted, just a cog, a bit better than Taylor was in his declining years and he didn't really have a big influence on weather we won or lost games. At least Merling had a notable pic 6 to put Favre out of his misery. The only ranking I saw of DE's had Langford ranked around 45 in 2011. I hope for Irelands sake, that this 2010 draft had better start getting to work.

pretty sure ireland's tenure at GM (with final say on personnel matters) began with the 2011 draft. that being said, i expect odrick to continue to demonstrate he is the real deal, misi to find a home at SAM LB in the 4-3, jerry to start or at minimum be a top reserve at both guard and tackle, nolan carroll and reshad jones continue to develop in the secondary and austin spitler to be core special teams and developmental LB.

I'm curious as to where Odrick will play. Everyone here seems to say starting LE...is there any source or indication that this will be the case? If I had to guess, he's rotating in with Starks again as a back-up DT. At 6'5" 305 lbs, I don't see him as a LE in the 4-3...

LE in base sets and maybe rotate him to the middle for sub/passing plays with vernon on the outside.
