My comments - Our offense stunk last year. Theoretically you can have hall of famers at the skill positions, who will be worthless with a crappy offensive line.
Carey Shifts to Left Tackle(slight upgrade)
Center has good competition - Hadnot/Satele/Ingram/Mormino
Guard has good competition - Liewinski/Esera/Parker/ Loser of center competition
RT looks like a downgrade - Shelton/Toledo/Rosenthal

So the o-line has been upgraded signifigantly. Right Tackle is the biggest concern. It appears that the starters at all 5 positions will change this year.
(Carey, Esera, Satele, Hadnot, Shelton)(?)(lots of combinations)

FB is improved.
WR is improved with Ginn (pending injury).
TE David Martin appears to be a below-average starter in the league. His blocking has been criticized, but so was Randy McMichaels. Martin will have to prove himself... as I'm not convinced that Justin Peele won't steel this spot at starter.

P Donnie Jones(starter) -> P Brandon Fields (who cares)

Seems a bit mean, don't you think.

other than that I think our offseason was pretty good. But we won't know for sure until we see these players in action.

Calling players who have never taken a snap in NFL as upgrade is confusing as hell.Considering that every year 500 Picks come in and you get what 40 starters on a good draft year 3 years down and another 30-40 backups.

satz

Unless the ones they replace are really bad lol.
What I find funny is that people already want to annoint Booker as better than Minor when Minor played much better than Booker at FSU. Minor was very good as a rookie and had over 4 yards a carry his first 3 years, just was never used the same after our awful 2004 year. i'm not saying Booker wont be better but we have no real reason to think he will be better yet.

I disagree if you are a starter in nfl it already means you are very good.NFL is faster, harder and tougher than any freaking college team .with 32 teams full looaded with the best of best.Any NFL team even the worst will kick any college teams az.

In college calvin johnson ran by all the corner watch here as corner will run him down in a game or schemes that take his speed out.

How can rookies who've never played a down in the NFL be an "upgrade" over NFL veterans? Based on what criteria? Certainly not performance. Purely speculation on your part.

I have to agree with regarding players never playing a down being called an upgrade. They should all be unknown because we don't know if they will be an upgrade or not and why jump the gun just sit back and let the results speak for themselves once the season starts.

Be specific.

Beck over Harrington is a guess. Harrington wasn't the answer though. He got demoted to 3rd-string behind Cleo at the end of the year. Hopefully Beck turns out to be more than a 3rd-stringer.

This post just shows how interesting this season is going to be with so many opportunities for rookies to make an impact.

How can you consider rookies upgrades?

Maybe based on their talent and potential, but the college level is so much different from the NFL.

I would have to say some college teams could of beaten the Raiders last year or the Lions any year.

I second that the DL in nfl would maul any OL unit....also raiders secondary would lay the smack with coverage and speed. No more running by a cornerback.
