This is a very typical sentence for a first time offender. In all actuality, it's actually a little bit harder than many of those that I've seen with the 5 years probation. Generally I've seen first time offenders pick up 2 or 3 years when no serious injuries are involved. Hopefully he can put this behind him now and concentrate on football.

He was merely offered this plea agreement, and as far as I know he hasn't accepted it. Although he doesn't deny attacking the dude with a chair, to my knowledge he still maintains that he didn't hit and/or kick his wife and so does she as well as, I believe, at least one other witness...

Maybe I should start a "Derrick Rodgers Criminal Charges Outcome Prediction Thread" so we can all play Gretta Van Sustern.
